The best alternative to a burrito. Better tasting, healthier, decent price, and a fair size. The seafood is also surprisingly fresh

They have no descriptions of what their combo plates include. So one person (who took our order) said the 'falafel combo' includes 2 eggplant sauces, tabouleh, hummus and falafel with pita. When the plate reaches our table, it has one eggplant 'stir-fry' not even a real eggplant sauce as promised. So I asked for someone to clarify why the plate looks so unappealing. This man comes to my table, looks at my plate and says oh, she actually gave you one EXTRA item - the tabouleh. We only give hummus + falafel + 1eggplant 'sauce' in this combo. I told him that while placing the order I was told something else, and he says 'Oh yeah, she's new, she doesn't know. But the eggplant sauce looks really good, enjoy it!' I was really not in the mood to walk away as it was a date night, and we decided its not worth spoiling it. However, it would be fair to say the Falafel tasted good. Hummus and 'eggplant sauce' were way below my expectations. Service and attitude, as stated earlier, SUCKS.

A simple Mediterranean restaurant in Downtown Palo Alto, perfect for a quick and easy meal. I ordered the #18, a combo beef/lamb/chicken gyro, and it was delightful! It was stuffed full with meat and veggies and it definitely filled me up, but it wasn't too heavy and I didn't feel like I was going to explode, which I have definitely experienced with gyros before. I wanted to touch specifically on the lamb -- I know a lot of people aren't fans of lamb meat, as there's a strong flavor to it that some may not enjoy, but it never bothered me. I always pay attention to this because my mom really hates that taste, but in this particular case, I didn't really notice it, even though I'm not picky about it. Maybe it's because there are so many other flavors in the gyro, but just thought I'd put it out there anyway for those of you who are usually a little more sensitive to it. :) The ordering process felt rushed; the guy behind the counter started taking the next guy's order when I was still signing my credit card receipt. And then, ironically enough, the food took a long time to come out. But still 4 stars because I really enjoyed my gyro!

Order was hot and quick but everything was bland. I found the gyro meat lacked flavor. I tried the lentil soup based on a review, it was good but needed salt. Ambiance was great. Probably won't come back :-/

I thought this place was okay, my boyfriend that it was amazing. We both have pretty bland taste buds and have a love for mediterranean food. Whlie it suited my boyfriend's taste buds, it did not for me as I thought it was missing some spice. The meat was delicious and moist but like I said, my lamb wrap was missing... something. I drenched my wrap in the "hot" sauce on the side and I still don't understand what this "hot" sauce it, it was like a mild salsa really. I'm a little disappointed with my lunch here. We noticed other patrons had kebab plates and they looked like they ordered kids meals. For a few bucks more, I'd go to The Kebab House in Fremont and get myself a large plate of delicious, flavorful food for much larger portions. The owner was prompt and nice. No complaints with the owner or the rest of the staff.

I came here for lunch because I wanted something different. I ordered a falafel wrap and fries! Very different. Not really. It was normal. Wasn't earth shattering. But not overwhelming to my taste buds.

I LOVED Gyros Gyros since the first time that I came here about a year ago. I would switch between the veggie wrap and falafel wrap and my friend, who has loved this place since he was in college about 10 years ago, would always get the lamb and beef wrap. Anytime we would be in the area, we would try to stop to enjoy our favorite wraps! However, today is a different story. My friend noticed immediately what was wrong. They're using tortillas now and it's not as awesome as it used to be. We weren't as satisfied as we have been in the past. So sad. Hopefully, this is only a temporary change and they will go back to their original ingredients. Until then, I don't think we'll be as excited to come here.

This place is fantastic! It was neat and clean and the staff was very friendly. All the food is very fresh. We had the gyro and a nice glass of Merlot. I'm taking some baklava to go that I'm sure will be delish! I highly recommend this place. Clean. Great price. Great service. Great food.

Chicken not fully cooked. Does not treat customers with care. Does not take care of their restaurant. Sat on glass, bled through my clothes. Was told of the uncooked chicken, yet did not do anything about it. Thank you, NEVER again.

There nothing worse than wanting a schwarma wrap and getting one that's made with tortilla instead of lavash. That's what happened last night. When I asked about it, they said it was their 'homemade' lavash, but I've never had lavash that tastes so much like a lard-y tortilla in my life. The chicken was awesome though, hence the two stars.

We got four Greek Salads and all were terrible. There was little to no dressing with zero taste. One plate with dressing had a fish sauce taste to it and when we went to get another dressing on the side -- it was nothing but watered down lemon juice -- completely different from the dressing that was on our salads. Even the feta cheese didn't have a kick to it. Unfortunately not impressed with the greek salad. Baklava was good.

Two stars, two very simple complaints. (This is all based on the gyro.) 1. As other reviewers have noted, the meat seems pretty bland (and too thinly-cut). Not that it needs to be hot or spicy or anything, but some sort of essential "zing" was missing in the flavor. The sauce had a similar problem. 2. What they call a gyro here is in fact a lavash wrap. More wrap than substance, too, as the flabby lavash hangs from the wrap like the skin of a person who lost hundreds of pounds in a very short amount of time. I don't remember seeing anything else other than the meat and the sauce in the wrap, to be perfectly honest. Heck, as if you needed any more reason to skip this two-star joint and hit up nearby Mediterranean Wraps - then know that they never bothered to put in the eggplant I ordered in my wrap (for an extra $2! - eggplant!!). If they did, it was too insubstantial to notice. Wolfed down too much of it before I noticed to bother with the nag. Unsurprisingly perhaps, the place was mostly empty when I came in.

Been here a few times as a student and as a quick bite when I'm passing through. The food is good. I've gotten some kebabs and the gyro, the latter of which is a pretty tasty and good sized wrap. The prices are pretty nice considering it's on University Ave. It can get a bit busy, and the cashier (owner?) can be sort of militant, but he's not rude, and the service is prompt. Recommended if you're looking for a quick bite on University!

I got the chicken gyro and I really liked it! It was perfect with the hot sauce. The good rating comes from not only the yummy dish but also from the friendly staff. I will make sure to come back to try their other dishes! :)

Went here for lunch today for the first time and tried the Lamb Adana Kebab plate. It was delicious! Very flavorful. My lamb kebab was a bit dry, but what do I know, it was my first time eating it! Overall a quaint place. Lots of seating, both inside and out, and great food! Can't wait to go back and sample the rest of the menu! P.s. the baklava is bomb.

I can honestly say that I did not love my meal here. It's not like it was gross or anything- it was just OK. The restaurant is small, crowded, and is surprisingly affordable considering where it is located. The menu offers a variety of appetizers, wraps, grilled entrees, and daily specials. I couldn't decide if I wanted red lentil soup, or sauteed green beans as an appetizer- so I ordered both. In my opinion, the soup lacked seasoning of any kind . As a result , it felt as though I was eating baby food in a bowl. On the bright side, the pita bread served with the soup was soft, fluffy , and delicious. The green beans were sauteed in onions, garlic, and a tomato-based sauce. Sounds good right? One problem- the damn things are served cold. If I would have known that- I certainly would not have ordered them. Cold green beans? No thanks! I decided on the chicken kebab wrap for dinner, and it wasn't very good. The chicken itself was bland and dry. The only thing that made this wrap edible was that freakin' crazy good hot sauce that is on every table. Don't mistake the red plastic bottle for ketchup -like I almost did. Bottom line, the restaurant is conveniently located .and the prices are reasonable. However, the food is bland and average at best.

Went back in the beginning of the summer, and something changed. Hoped it was a one-time thing but went back twice to confirm. My "favorite gyro" is now under-impressive overall, with what seems like pre-packaged salad and a scant amount of tzatziki. I'll probably come back in the future hoping it goes back to the way it was

Not a gyro. Tortilla, iceberg lettuce, falafel tastes like Chinese food. Sad horn "wah wahhhh."

Placed a last minute food order to go for 35 people. I ordered 3 different types of gyros and wraps: falafel, chicken and lamb, plus Greek salad. They did not disappoint. Everything fresh and moist. Wraps were not dry. Service was more than ideal - everything labeled and organized. Thank you.......

This place is a true gem in downtown Palo Alto, a place where meals under $10 are hard to come by. While the gyro meat is wonderfully flavorful, both it and the falafel were a little dry--I suggest getting a wrap instead of a plate, so that the sauces balance it out. They were also very accommodating to my request to split one of the plates, which most places won't do!

Another great Balkan food place. The food is hot, well seasoned, good potions, and the service is great. The Misaka is almost as good as my grandmother's. The ayran is cold and solty ( home mad) Baby ganush ( aka kiopolo is amazing too) Give it a try. I eat here ever time I am in Palo Alto.

I will NEVER return here. I used to frequent this spot with my co-workers when I worked across the street. The staff and management was extremely rude. I asked for a water cup or a to go cup for my puppy outside. The lady behind the counter curtly replied, "we don't give to-go cups for water". I said I need to give my pup some water. It is extremely hot outside. She completely ignored me. So I found a glass and filled it up with water and went outside. One of the staff followed me outside and said he needed my glass back. I explained to him what happened and he yelled at me and said "just throw away the glass". To all pet owners and dog-owners, he treated us like we were a walking disease. Doesn't he know that dogs in Palo Alto are first class citizens?!

Not sure why so many people are giving Gyros mediocre reviews. I happen to love their lentil soup, grilled veggies and their soft, delicious pita. These 3 items together make for the perfect lunch without breaking the bank. Inside is small but has its charms, and sidewalk seating is nice on a warm day. Tip: Order online at OrderAheadApp.com and save time.

We had ordered take out tonight. Previous experiences were positive. My family like their wraps. However, I found a large plastic bag in my Greek salad!! We found a piece of mystery meat in the other salad. I called the restaurant and they said there was nothing they could do!! I had used an app to place my order and Gyros Gyros claimed they had no access to my credit card. There was no apology or offer to refund our meal. The app, Order Ahead, is helping. We won't be returning here! Too bad bc we have enjoyed it in the past.

Ordered delivery from Gyros Gyros through Doordash. It was delivered quickly (within the hour) and the Dolmas were very good! However, we were disappointed with the gyros. The meat (lamb & beef) seemed low quality with bits of bone found in it. We took only a few bites before discarding the rest. Needless to say, we were still hungry and had to find something else for dinner. The hummus was okay. I would likely try this place again, but only vegetarian options.

I love this place! Everything from the service to the food to the location ! The guy who is always there (I assume he's the owner or manager) is super nice and funny. Every time I have come here, he cracks jokes and lightens the mood. The food is superb! I always get the number 35 which is a chicken gyros plate that comes with a salad with some amazing vinaigrette and a ball of rice and the chicken of course! You also get pita bread on the side. The sauce that comes with the meal is great to be poured over the chicken and rice and enjoyed together. The servings are very big so make sure you're super hungry. The location is prime as it is located in downtown palo alto on university which is fun if you're planing on grabbing drinks after or walking around. Everything is super close and convenient. There is outdoor seating which is perfect for this amazing weather we've been having!

One of my favorite places since I was a kid. This place has the best Mediterranean rice I have ever had! The combo mix plate is perfect, with all the meats so you can try everythig. Comes with a salad and rice. The hummus is well seasoned and pita is yummy. The gyros are all good as well, with the right amount of sauce. This place has some of the best spanakopita (spinach puff pastry), and baklava is quite good too. Only downside- place is too small so can feel crowded. Management may have changed because food is not consistent.

Simple walk in place with a few tables inside and out. Convenient if you have a stroller or a pet. Grabbed a Chicken Gyro Salad $8.95 which comes with pita bread. Basic, simple, tasty. I'd come back again.

Perfect place for lunch. I visited here yesterday and ordered the chicken kabob wrap. Delicious! And easy to eat on-the-go. Hot sauce on the side was SPICY, just the way I like it! But for those who like a more mild flavor should use with caution. Excellent customer service. Quick and delicious!

  • Susan L.

The ingredients seemed fresh hence the 2 stars. However, I was disappointed when my chicken gyro came wrapped in what looked like and tasted like a flour tortilla, not lavash flatbread. Chicken was "ok" I guess, tahini sauce was watery. Overall, lacks authenticity.

  • Philip H.

Excellent spot if you're not looking for anything fancy, but with great food. Highly recommend the chicken gyro wrap. Its enough to fill up a hungry guy and its healthy. They also have outdoor dining which is great for people watching on University Ave!

One cold Thanksgiving weekend night, I came here with my family. I wasn't sure what to expect, since we had never tried anything but Cheesecake Factory on University Avenue. I ate the best Salmon wrap ever that night. I've never encountered a fish wrap at any other eatery. There was so much salmon in my wrap that I wasn't just happy, but I'm pretty sure my stomach was smiling with me. Whatever sauce was in the wrap, my taste buds were definitely satisfied as well. so tasty.

QUICK ONE MEAL REVIEW - I ordered the lamb kebab plate meal for lunch. Total was about $13.50 , so about under 14bux with tax. This food is actually tasty but the problem I had with it was it was an expensive meal and the portions they gave you was skimpy/small. I had about six small pieces of meat. They could have given more rice. which is the cheapest part of the entree and they didnt? The salad had light dressing and was about right in portion and in taste, it was nice. Also a nice touch was the yogurt on the side in a small plastic tub. And the best bonus was actually the four pieces of the flatbread, warm, and in a tinfoil. Nice touch also. They would have me as a steady customer if they added a few more pieces of meat and/or cut the pieces larger and serve it. And also add more rice All and all if they did that then the meal would be a fair value. I think its a big cop-out to say that just because they are a place of business in Palo Alto does'nt mean they get a pass for the food they serve on University? Honestly folks, that just isnt right. I can say some snarky anecdotes right now but Im gonna save it for the next review. LOL! And in seeing the rest of the menu, I would guess the say the same about those as well. I care to guess this place does well based on the good tasting food they produce, regardless of the portions. And so I'd say the majority of their regular return customers really like what they eat. And honestly theres not alot of Greek restaurants around thats this good of a quality. By the way the counter people and wait staff are fine. Some of the critics in here are thin-skinned. Evidently they have not been to other middle eastern establishments that are awful and this place is not one of those. Have fun and enjoy the meal.

    (3)
  • Steven K.

Ok, as a Greek-American with many friends of middle eastern genealogy, I can say this was not gyro, nor shwarma. If you would like a non-descript wrap, this is your place. If you are looking for the real deal, keep looking :)

I think I'm spoiled having been from Cupertino and going to Yiassoo. I tried the combination gyro just to get a taste of every meat. The lamb and beef here were pretty good but besides that the gyro was a bit bland. The ingredients tasted fresh which is a plus but very lacking in flavor. The tzatziki served as little more than lube for the dry ingredients and didn't really have any discernible flavor in it. Also, their wrap was very dry and about half way into eating it, the bottom just disintegrated from the wet tomato juice and tzatziki. At least they have a squeeze bottle of hot sauce so you can drench it with some hint of flavor. It's not a total bust since I thought the meat was ok but just shrouded by tasteless veggies and wrap. If I were to come back, I'd probably try a plate where the meat is more front and center.

  • Daniel R.

Fast service, friendly atmosphere, inside and outside seating, reasonably priced and varied menu, and good tasting food. Compared to most of the other University Ave eateries, this one is a steal. I usually order their lamb or chicken gyros and it always leaves me full and satisfied. Haven't tried other menu items but I tend to go with friends when I eat here and they've tried a varied assortment and always enjoy their meals.

I work in Palo Alto and this has become one of my go to places for quick awesome Mediterranean food. It can get busy during lunch time but it is worth the wait. The food is cheap enough to go out for lunch daily and not feel guilty.

I believe it is a family run business. They are so kind and the owner brought out our food. Anything with the lamb is really good and I love the yellow rice. I come here a lot because it isn't too crowded and I love the food!

I had the felafel wrap, it was very good the service was good the food came fast. This place has the ambiance of a real resteraunt with a slight touch of fast food or a deli. Great for friends maybe not a date though.

A gem of a mediterranean restaurant on University Ave. The red lentil soup with pita is a cheap, filling lunch -- tough to find nearby! The green beans side dish is good enough for a meal (wish it was warm though). It can take a bit of time to get food, especially when they are busy.

I've been here a few times, most recently last week. I usually end up having my infant with me and it is a nightmare navigating through their crowded interior with the stroller. But, thankfully there are tables aplenty outside. I always get the Dolma, they are yummy. I got the Lamb/Beef plate & my hubby got something with Lamb/Beef & Chicken. Both come with rice and a cucumber/tomato salad. It was good but tasted like the meat was soaked through in butter or something. Don't get me wrong- it tasted good but I couldn't figure it out and that bothered me. I was hesitant to share it with my daughter; it just tasted manufactured. I love rice pudding so ordered some Rizogola and when it came it out was more like a rich milky sweet soup with some rice haphazardly thrown in. The rizogola at Ephesus (Castro) is much better.

palo alto mediterranean lunch...eastern outskirts of palo alto downtown...roughly $twelve gyro plates...chicken gyro plate slivers of white chicken meat mound...cucumber salad...seasoned rice and pink sauce....adana kebab a more savory choice....selecting lamb served two ways....long stick of ground lamb...quite thick and filling and delicious....bed of standard slicing of lamb meat underneath adding change in texture....same salad, sauce and rice mound...should avoid pressing the rice into a shape....pita bread provided to wrap...quite good...$forty-two total lunch for three

I used to like this place. Yes, past tense, used to like. This place used to have very good plate dishes, I especially liked their seafood combo plate, which contained decent size and good quality of salmon, swordfish and prawns. I used to always order this whenever I went there. Simple but good food. Gradually, the quality has been going down hills. The size of the dish shrinks, Yet the price continues to increase. The most recent time (past weekend) when we wen there - which will most likely be the last time for us. I still ordered the same dish, however, this time, a small size of salmon, and the swordfish was not fresh and tasted bad, and the prawns had reduced two tiny-sized and not so fresh looking and tasting shrimps. Still, the whole dish cost around 17 dollars for lunch. And this is an order-at-the-counter kind of place with minimum service. It was beyond being over priced, it was a rip-off. It was a huge let-down. I will NEVER go back there. Bye bye, gyros gyros.

I was craving this place one morning and decide to go here for lunch. This is my second time coming here and it has never disappointed me. I am not a regular when it comes to Greek food, but I have a much better appreciation of it because of this restaurant. I had the combo mixed grill plate and it was absolutely perfect. You could tell that they prepare everything on the same day because of just how fresh everything tastes. No sign of anything being frozen! The meats were seasoned perfectly and the lamb tasted very gamy, which was delightful(I'm not used to this flavor). Every dish I saw coming out of the kitchen were generous with the amount of portions. Therefore, if you are looking to get stuffed, eat here and you will be very satisfied. For dessert, I had the baklava. It was very good. I really don't have a reference because I have only eaten baklava on a couple occasions, but you won't be disappointed. Overall, worth a visit if your curious about what Mediterranean cuisine is about and are in the Palo Alto area.

We ordered two gyro salads, a chicken skewer plate and an order of hummus. The chicken and rice were good, which is why I gave this place one star. The gyro salad was 95% meat, which would have been okay if the meat was good; however, the gyro meat was cut very thin and had very little, if any, flavor. The hummus was the most flavorless hummus I have ever eaten and it was nearly white in color. It's by far the worst hummus and gyro meat I've ever had. I am certain I would not have been able to identify the hummus as such if I didn't know I ordered hummus. Will not go here again.

My kids and I love to go to this small corner restaurant at the base of a classic building in downtown Palo Alto. friendly service and delicious food. I like the gyro salad, my son like the shiskabob and my daughter likes the side if greek rice (plus bumming the cucumbers off our plates) and chased down with cans Kern's fruit drinks.

I only go here for one thing...their swordfish wrap. Nope...never heard of it either until I stumbled upon it at this place. Ever since, i've never thought twice about ordering anything else at this place. You can get falafel, gyros, and all the other good stuff anywhere, but the swordfish here takes the cake! Also, today I called in an order and went by to pick it up. He realized he forgot to place the order, apologized profusely, and even made some jokes about it. Even as I waited he apologized a couple more times. When I left, he gave me an order of baklava as a thank you for my extra time i waited. It's great to see a business owner that makes a mistake but can make a positive out of it. I'll definitely be back again for the swordfish wrap...and next time maybe also an order of the baklava...yum! Happy eating!

One of our favorite places to stop for a quick bite on University. The proprietor and staff are kind and service is fast. I usually get the falafel wrap-- has delicious cucumbers and tzaziki inside and the entire thing is grilled, which makes it even more scrumptious. Hot sauce on the table is good. We always sit outside and people watch and sometimes finish the meal with a little baklava (supremely delicious). The only negative is the bathroom, I would avoid it if I were you.

  • Erick L.

Ordered the lamb kebab plate and enjoyed every bite of it. Lamb chunks were large and nicely cooked - grilled on the outside, cooked medium and juicy inside, and very tender. The rice was flavorful and the pita bread was soft and a little chewy, just how I like it.

  • Kelly Y.

The gyro was decent, tasted better with the red sauce for flavor. However, texture was good and in general I like it better than other gyros I've had in the bay area. The mix of ingredients is really good. It's not awkward to eat, and the ingredients feel meshed together somehow more than other places (unlike how with Chipotle you get different ingredients in different bites) We also had the lamb shish kabab which was also decent. I'd definitely come back if I lived closer. Service: non, really. you get your own water. They do bring the food out to you, however.

Another update on this exceptionally wonderful neighborhood. I'm writhing this update as they prepare my take out orders for dinner for my parents. Last week, I ordered to go the Grilled Seafood Combo Plate and Mixed Grill Combo Plate. My picky foodie parents loved every bit of the food -- GOAL!!! SCORED! My parents are hard to please and these two dinner plates were instant hits. In fact, my dad asked me to bring back more. So, I'm here tonight to get the same except I've asked the owner/chef to substitute more rice (very delicious) for the pitta bread. And the owner/chef happily accommodate my request. Prices are great and the service is excellent and everyone is friendly. I love the location and ambiance of this lovely restaurant, which is great for solo dinning, business lunches and dates.

Probably one of the best Mediterranean places on University ave. Although the restaurant is mostly packed, the food tastes great, is fresh and unlike most of the other restaurants on University lacks a certain degree of pretentiousness.

I think Gyros Gyros is underrated. The food is consistently good and the service has always been friendly, if not outgoing. I always order the combination of meats, whether as a wrap or a plate. Sometimes luxuriating in a big plate of meat, salad, and rice is just what the doctor ordered. I absolutely adore the hot sauce on the table and slather it on everything. The wrap bread can be a bit dry, but for some reason it doesn't bother me. I feel like I have a heartfelt bond with Gyros Gyros. It's not fancy and It doesn't get a lot of love because it's off University, but I'd recommend it for a quick bite!

Horrible service expensive and rude staff! Got my order completely wrong and then made me wait for them to fix it when I was already late for work! I just wanted a refund!

I found myself solo around lunchtime on University Ave the other day. I originally found another place on Yelp that I was going to try out, but the line was just too long to wait in for a quick lunch, so I walked down the street and found this place instead. There was no wait (Friday around 12:45) so I went in and ordered. I got the chicken kebab plate, which came with a skewer of chicken, rice pilaf, a greek salad, and pita bread-- about $13. I thought that it was slightly pricey for the quality, but it was a generous amount of food-- I couldn't finish the chicken or the pita bread. The pita bread was so good that I got a to-go box to take the rest of it with me. I thought the chicken was slightly dry, and the rice and salad were pretty standard. Overall, I would probably go back if I was in the area and looking for something no-frills and quick.

1 star off: I really did not like the beef/lamb gyro I got here. 1 star off: The meat was kind of cold and extremely lamb-y, you know, the stinky lamb-y kind. 1 star off: I wanted to give it a few bites, but after the first couple, I just could not finish it anymore. 1 star off: Nothing else on the menu entices me to return, either. Well, at least they don't repel me. Like their lamb.

Great Food. Great Service. My family and have been coming to this restaurant for the last few years and the quality of the food and service is always exceptional. The staff is friendly, the food comes quickly, and the price is great consider it's location. During volleyball season we go the gyros gyros after every game and we will keep coming back next season.

This place is solid and it gets a bonus star for being two blocks from my apt and also open until 11pm every night. I usually just get a beef/lamb gyro wrap and it's been delicious everytime. The guys who work here are pretty nice and the service is quick. I grabbed a takeout menu the last time I was there, so maybe next time I'll call in my order or try something different.

Worst customer service i have ever got ... I work in Palo alto and this place is walking distance from me so you would think its convinient and fast ... I ordered a $15 salad and it took my entire lunch time to get ready and they still gave me the wrong order and had an attitude about it ... I mean for the price they are charging, they really need to fix their attitude of their workers .... Even if the food is good, im NEVER goin back here and make sure my coworkers know bout it too ....

I got a Lamb & Beef Gyros (Served w/Lettuce, Tomato in Lavash Bread and Tahini, $7.50) through Waiter.com and promptly got a stomachache after consuming it. The lamb smelled and tasted gamey, but I ate most of the gyro since I was hungry. After having a stomachache for two days after, I will not be purchasing anything else from Gyros Gyros. The worst part of this was the gyro didn't even taste good, even with the gamey lamb aside. They were stingy with the filling, and the gyro fell apart as I was eating it. The tahini sauce also wasn't very flavorful.

Ate here on one of my lunches this summer & ordered the veggie wrap. It was sooo delicious, but I was not prepared for the potato inside. Flavors are awesome, but there was just way too much potato, which made it a lot heavier than I was expecting. However, the hummus was bomb and the veggies were grilled perfectly, so not a bad place to grab Greek food at all.

The food is very decent!! It is not fancy place, but a very cozy place to dine in for two or three people. Very relaxed and comfy atmosphere. Not too noisy, and good for conversation and laughters. I highly recommend!

Horrible salad!! How can you f*** up a salad. Got the chicken gyro salad for $8.95, ( lettuce, lil bit of tomato, bits of chicken, it had to be the left over bits of turkey) oh & by the way they had a name change to gyro gyro

I have been coming here for years and I cannot believe that I haven't written a review. There are a lot of Mediterranean options on and around University and I have been to most. Interestingly enough they are all different based on where the owners are from and some are good, some not so good. Gyros, Gryos is a place where I always get the same thing: the lamb/beef plate. It comes with rice, salad, warp, white sauce and meat. I always ask for extra white sauce and extra hot sauce. The taste of the meat seems to vary from time to time, but most of the time it is delicious. Sometimes it can be a bit on the dry side, but everyone, including a restaurant, can have bad days. I like getting the plate because I like to change the taste of each bite. This is why I rarely get a wrap here. Service can be painfully slow at times and prices are on the high side for what you get, but I find myself craving the food. I used to stop in more often, but now that I live farther away I don't get to eat here as often, but when I am in the neighborhood, this is often my choice for an easy lunch.

i'm on this block of university ave all the time, and have passed by this place a zillion times, but never stopped in to check it out. on a day when i needed a light lunch to hold me over til dinner, i decided to get the spanakopita ($4.95), which looked really good and fresh inside the display case. they heated it up for me, then cut the square into 4 triangular bite-size pieces (still good size pieces), and served it on a plate. the spanakopita was delicious, flaky on the outside, warm and chewy with spinach on the inside, and very fresh tasting. i would have loved some cheese on the inside for extra creaminess and flavour, since most greek/mediterranean places make this delicacy with spinach and cheese. but i have to say, even without it, this spanakopita was still pretty tasty and i would definitely come back for more. the cafe is small, but they have a decent amount of seating inside as well as outside the restaurant. it is semi-self serve, as you order at the cashier, they give you a number, you get your own drinks, and they bring you the food when it's ready. the cashier was very nice and friendly, as was the waiter who brought me my food. definitely a good place to grab a quick bite or sit down for a full meal, as service is reliable and food is solid.

Verdict: COME HERE FOR CHEAP YUMMY GYROS. *good deal* Also: It's right next door to Yogurtland, aka cheap yummy fro-yo. It's always nice to finish the meal with some Yogurtland and a stroll along University. This is a really casual corner cafe-style mediterranean place on University in Downtown Palo Alto. I'd say this is one of the only cheap yummy restaurants on University. I mean, have you seen some of the classy restaurants around there?! But that's besides the point. No matter where this is, I'd still think it's amazing. I always get the same thing, the lamb and beef gyros wrap. SO GOOD. I've tried the plates of the people I come with, and I always pity them for not ordering what I got (I know, I'm such a strange food snob). It's not to say that it's not good, but it's just not AS GOOD as what I've got. The plates are kind of unnecessary in my opinion--it comes with a lot of random unnecessary things to make it seem larger and more expensive. The wrap by itself is sufficiently filling and has the best parts of any plate all wrapped up so you can enjoy them all together in one bite! It's my go-to cheap (around $8) place when I'm feeling like some gyros.

Yummy gyros! Got the Beef Lamb Gyro and thought it was a pretty good food to price ratio. My mom and I shared one and of course my brother ate the whole thing. My brother loves the yogurt sauce and they were kind to give us more. The service is a bit slow in getting the sauce to us though. Waiting for the food to come out wasn't bad (5-10 minutes). They have an outdoor patio too -- if the weather is nice, sit outside.

I've been to Gyros Gyros like five times and I just keep coming back. I used to be skeptical about Mediterranean food (there wasn't much of it where I grew up), but Gyros Gyros really helped change my mind, and turned it into one of my favorite foods. :) I am vegetarian, so I typically order their falafel wrap. It is delicious, and they pack it generously with tomatoes, fafafel, hummus, etc. Service is fairly fast, even during busier hours. I also think the workers there are generally upbeat and friendly.

My friends and I ordered Chicken Wrap, Falafal plate, eggplant salad and veggie wrap, turkish coffee. Everything was just average. If there is a place like Oren's in the same area, then I am not visiting gyros gyros again. Disappointing.

Grabbed a great bite for dinner since we were close by and wanted something quick. This was not as quick as we expected - the food is made from scratch. Which is a really good thing, but just didn't expect it in a small Gyro joint. When it comes to taste, the most important thing in Mediterranean food is spices, and they got the spices just right. Chicken kabobs were really good, but I love the swordfish salad. The only problem was with their spinach pie - it's supposed to be a crispy, but they decided to warm it up in (guessing) a microwave and it turned into a soggy flat thingy... but the filling was still delicious.

I love the dolma and falafels here! I am a regular and the owner always knows what I want. The food is consistently good, and fairly priced. I come here all the time for lunch. Gets quite crowded around lunch time so I suggest planning ahead!

Gyros is always busy for lunch time and never had a chance to have their food, until now. I ordered the combo wrap with chicken, beef and lamb. It was so good. Also its a big portion so you might have a food coma. Fast service and the Greek music playing are great. Defenetly will be coming here for lunch more often.

Had falafel and beef+lamb gyro. Both had something missing. Not enough hummus, acidity and the lavash was overpowering.

The food is average, but the reason for the 1 star rating is for racism. I went with a friend late night a while back, and the owner started bad mouthing a certain religion and people of that certain religion... It is not only inappropriate, it is also offensive... America is all about tolerance, Not bigotry nor racism... Shame on you...

This place is next to my barber shop so I dropped in after getting my ears lowered. I should have walked a block or two and eaten at Oren's. I had the falafel wrap. The ingredients seemed fresh but the wrap was severely under seasoned. The falafel balls had little crunchy bits in them that I couldn't place but they were not unpleasant. The upshot: I wouldn't recommend this place with other, better options nearby, but it wasn't bad; it was just OK.

I gave this place a try twice. And both times it was disappointing. First time I ordered to-go, I gave them a generous amount of time to have my gyro wrap ready for me to just pay, grab and go. Instead, I find out its not ready. That's fine, I tell the cashier I'm running to Starbucks real quick and I'll be back in ten minutes. Come back and still my wrap is NOT READY. Wth?! Come back again and actually sit down this time. Waiting for our food took more than 20 minutes. Look at my plate of chicken kebab, for 12 bucks i expected the portion to be a lot bigger. Every other Greek/ Middle Eastern restaurant I have been to have huge plates, and this was the smallest one I've ever set eyes on. Go somewhere else. This place isn't authentic, and just not worth it for the price and lack of customer service.

Last two times i was with a friend there for dinner and had the adana kebab, my friends spent the night in their bathroom. How can so low quality food be so over priced and so far from a Mediterranean Greek or Turkish food?

What can I say... I like this restaurant. The first time I came here, I asked the lady at the counter what can I get that's easy and fast. She said the wrap so I got myself a chicken wrap. It's huge for me that I only finished half of it. After seeing the food that the other customers ordered, I promised myself to come back and try other stuff on their menu, which I did. This time I had the lamb kebob and it comes with Greek salad and a side of rice yelp.com/user_local_phot… . It's soooo good that I took my left over home and had it again for dinner. The place is located in the corner of Cowper St and University Ave. It's very busy on lunch time. Outside seating available. If you're craving for Greek/ Mediterranean food and in Palo Alto, come by Gyros Gyros.

Me and my wife dropped into this place one cold winter night a few years back and we so enjoyed the food. We loved the food so much that we made it a ritual for more than a year to come here every single friday evening. I dont remember ever in my life being able to eat at the same place for such a long time and eating the same thing. I cant do a restaurant typically more than 2-3 times in a row. And then i need quite a long break not only from the restaurant but from the cuisine. There is something about the food that that is light, fresh that made us come back for so long and so regularly. We dont frequent the place as often but still love everytime we do end up there. We live in santa clara so it was quite a drive every week but still did not mind it. We usually get the chicken kabab plate and the vegetarian combo plate and share between us. Both are fantastic and so fresh tasting. I have had some friends eat the lamb kabab and have been told that it was fantastic. Do note all the kababs are available in a plate (with rice, pita and salad) and as a sandwich (rolled into a pita) My wife is also crazy about their baklava. Hands down the best we have ever had. They are extremely moist unlike the ones that you find are dry elsewhere. If you like baklava you must try this. The only one thing that bothers me a bit is their pita bread. For a place that has such fantastic food their pita breads are store bought (atleast it looks and tastes like) Would have loved for them to have home made pita's like the one at "Falafel etc" (Fremont). This has been less of a problem now since we both are on a no carb/low carb diet and usually dont eat the pita. The lady on the counter who is a russian is very welcoming, attentive and always has a very bright smile on her face. This would actually be a 4.5 but rounded of to 5. Anyway highly recommend for a relatively cheap mediterranean place in and around Palo alto.

This is the first place I ate when I was moving to Palo Alto. Glad I did! The cashier was really friendly & helped us with the menu. The three of us in the party ordered various meat combinations (beef, lamb, chicken). They all came with salad, rice, pita bread and tzatziki sauce. After paying, we grabbed a table outside and enjoyed the great weather while waiting for the food to be brought to us. I thought that the portions were good but the prices were slightly high for a casual restaurant. But this is University Ave after all! Most other places downtown have higher prices. All the meats were flavorful and the rice was fluffy. We all enjoyed our dishes & had a good impression of Palo Alto after the meal.

My friend invited me to dinner at Gyros Gyros and I was excited since I hadn't been in a while. I've had their beef/lamb gyro which was good as well as their lamb rice combination plate which was even better. This last time I ordered the vegetarian combo plate which came with a large falafel ball that was not cooked all the way through, a delicious dolma, hummus, a small helping of baba ganoush and a side of Greek salad. The person who brought our food out forgot my pita until I asked him where it was. Mmmm freshly warmed pita! I would recommend the combination plates since they are more delicious, to me at least! Yum! I want this for dinner now!

I FREAKING LOVE THIS PLACE!!! you know why? I tell you the why...and then you will say ..."Damn Dean...you are right...this place is the awesome sauce with a side of unreal gravy" The food is always fresh and tasty ...i've come here about 30 times in the last 3 months and i have yet to either get a dry or tough piece of meat in any of my wraps.. I usually order the Lamb Gyro (tasty and not gamey ever), the Chicken Adana (soooo juicy and with bits of cucumber and spices its tingly), the Chicken Gyro (juicy and has a hint of roasted flavor to it) and the lentil soup (hearty and thick like moms) The service has also always been perfect...from the Owner who is a great, warm, funny guy to the ladies at the counter...my fav is the spanish girl at the counter, I don't know her name but she is always smiling and always happy and she really makes you feel welcome. Since i've been coming so much, they all know me by name now and sometimes ...on a not so busy day...already have my lunch on the grill before I come in. NOW THAT IS SERVICE. I love this place, the food is spot on and the service is friendly and welcoming. those who rated this place lower than a 3...I dunno what to say to that.. maybe you went on a bad day (although like I say above...i've been coming here a LOT in the last three months so I'm unsure when you all went)

YUM! I have been here a few times and I can say three things. 1. The staff is friendly 2. The service is very fast 3. The food is amazing! I have always loved good Greek food. Their wraps are a little different than most of the places I've been. Instead of a thick pita, they are wrapped in an almost-tortilla and grilled. The falafel is soooo good and flavorful. The dolma is also yummy! And the spicy hummus! UNF! Consistently yummy food and friendly staff!

Review is just for hummus! This is a walk-up to order, small restaurant. They have outdoor seating, which is nice on a warm day. The BF and I were walking by and the food smelled good so we were drawn in. We decided we wanted a snack and ordered a plate of their hummus. We were so disappointed. It was the worst hummus I've ever had. We weren't even able to finish the plate between the two of us. It was bland, flavorless and unappetizing. Sad to say, but I actually think the hummus in the jars at the grocery stores tasted better.

In search of some sustenance before the Jorts Jam yesterday, I popped on over to Gyros Gyros for a Greek style salmon wrap. The staff were personable and I adapted the wrap slightly to include hummus instead of their tartar sauce, as well as some additional spicy sauce. The salmon was buttery and soft, and the spicy sauce cradled in the lavash wrap and surrounded by fresh lettuce and tomato piqued by taste-buds just right. The wrap wasn't exactly cheap at about 11 dollars (an extra dollar for the hummus) - but for the wealth of fresh salmon that they included in it - I was both impressed and full for the rest of the night. I am sure there may be better Mediterranean spots around in the area, but I was thoroughly satisfied with my dish here. Trust.

Have never had a bad meal here. I've tried everything on the menu so far, except the desserts. The ownership and staff changes every few years, but once you get to know the new folks, they actually want feedback or input on what to make it more authentic. I didi a taste test between Gyro Gyro and the place down the street, and there's no comparison who's better. Service is fast (even during lunch time), clean, friendly/courteous and affordable.

I come here a lot with my childhood buddies that live in this area. Best/autentic tasting spanakopita I've had at a restaurant. My aunt and my neighbor are both Greek so I'm spoiled with homeade Greek food and it's hard to find a place that makes authentic Greek cuisine. This place makes the best REAL Gyros than any other Greek spot in the bay Area. I also love Athena Grill in Santa Clara because it's just as great but the Gyros at Gyros Gyros taste homemade.

I have to come alone because my girlfriend doesn't eat Greek. I have been there once and had their Beef Lamb Gyro. It was very good. Juicy and flavorful. It's cafe style so expect that. Not a sit down romantic dinner place. The flavors were authentic as opposed to fusion. Planning a to go run for the 49 s game. gyro and beer.

While perhaps not the prettiest mediterranean restaurant in Palo Alto, being a cafe and all, this is the best in terms of taste, size, and professionalism. I have tried all the places in downtown Palo Alto that I know of, and Gyros, Gyros is the best. Problems with others are higher prices, less food, too much salt, poor service, etc. Gyro, Gyros seems to use the best and freshest ingredients, they are fastest and most thorough, they are the best tasting and simplest, and they are friendly and courteous and do a great job. Eating out on the sidewalk is nice on a summer night, inside is OK, or even takeout, all good. This place used to be my go to place for good nutritious, well-prepared, tasty food when I needed to get something latenight and everything is closed, but it's so good now I'll grab this delicious food anytime. I probably honestly had to round this up, since it is obviously not really quite a world class place, but they do such a good job - maybe a 4.75 .... soooo, it's close to a 5 for me, so 5 it is.

Had lunch here today for the first time, and I have to say I was underwhelmed. The service was very friendly and fast, but unfortunately the food was not good. A friend and I each ordered a gyro and we had the hummus as a side dish. The hummus arrived first, and while the pita was good (whole wheat is a nice surprise), the hummus itself was extremely bland -- virtually no flavor of lemon or garlic. Then, we had the gyros delivered to our table. I was a bit surprised when I picked it up at how hard the lavash bread was, but figured maybe it was just from the grill. WRONG -- the lavash was stale and dry -- all the way through. Added to this was the fact that the meat itself was dry -- none of the delicious fat and juices one expects from a good gyros. The final indignity was that there was almost no tzitziki sauce on the wrap. The thing was pretty tasteless and hard to choke down -- had to add a LOT of hot sauce (also rather flavorless) to make it at least chewable. Overall, I have to say that this was to gyros what wonder is to bread...

I almost can't believe I'm writing this review. Never before has a restaurant left me feeling so very indifferent. Even the name is insubstantial. I suspect that my body was nourished by what I ate, because my hunger was mysteriously absent when I left the establishment. But I can't recall a moment of the experience. Spooky!

Right...so the name of the business is obvious. The name of the sign is obvious. It's Med food...with lamb/chix/beef/everything else in between AKA the kitchen sink. With all the rotating businesses that are trying to survive on the University Ave... It's gotta be the quality that matches the price. Sorry to say, I'll give it a few months......customer service is not there, food is not there. FLUSH. Down ze toilet. *Cue whirling water music*

Gyros Gyros is one of the several Mediterranean spots in Palo Alto. Right off the bat, if you're looking for the best gyro in the city, then Mediterranean Wraps is probably where you'd want to go. As far as downtown goes, this is probably your best bet. Conveniently located on University Ave and near Borders & Apple, this is a nice spot to grab a quick bite while you're about to buy books or get your laptop fixed. The menu here is essentially the same as any other gyro spot. You have your gyro wraps, and then your assorted plates. If you're on the go, the lamb/beef gyro wrap is where its at (~$7). Slap on some of that hot sauce on it and you're pretty much good to go. As far as their plates go, they're not bad. With the lamb/meat plate, you get a nice chunk of meat, rice, and some veggies on the side. I do wish that they'd give you more than one pita bread, but that might be asking too much. They were a little shiesty with the hot sauce though. Also, they had this weird yogurt drink that I tried out once. Bleh, maybe it's good to some, but that sure isn't for me. It just tasted too weird and I couldn't finish it.

I was working in Palo Alto and I asked a friend, that I haven't seen for a long time, to meet me here for lunch. I have been here once before and had a good experience. This time I wasn't satisfied at all. It was very busy since it was lunch time and I can accept that. The server became rude and pushy because we were standing in his way for him to get around. That didn't go well with me and I became aggitated. Or maybe I was just hungry. I ordered the grilled vegetable wrap that I have had before. We were served in a timely manner. The vegetable wrap wasn't good. There were uncooked potatoes, too many green peppers and a few sprigs of asparagus. The humas was at the bottom of the wrap so it started to fall apart and I had humus all over my hands. I also don't understand that a meatless item costs as much as a meat item. It should be less. I won't go back again.

I went here with my two friends a few days ago and we were all very satisfied. We ordered: beef and lamb gyro, combo gyro, and veggie gyro ( which contains falafel). The portions were very generous and the cafe has a cute atmosphere. The guy (I think the owner) who took our orders had a good sense of humor and made out visit enjoyable. I was only disappointed the wrap wasn't a soft delicious pita bread and instead was a pita "tortilla". I am not sure if this how traditional gyros are made because I have experienced this at multiple other gyros place but at Yiasso in Cupertino have the soft pita bread which still makes it the best gyro place but Gyros Gyros is a close second.

Just a quick update on Gyros Gyros after I visited this small, cozy restaurant with a group of friends earlier today. Nothing's really changed, although this time, I tried their spicy hummus. It's basically the same recipe as their regular hummus, except that they also mix in their house spicy sauce (the same spicy sauce that sits atop each of the tables). It had a nice flavor to it. The hummus itself has wonderful complements of olive oil and lemon, which creates a nice zesty flavor to it. Then, add just a touch of heat from the spicy sauce, and you have a pretty nice treat, although I must admit that the spiciness of the house sauce does cover some of the flavors of the hummus. I think what I'm learning from my many stops at Gyros Gyros is that I really like their appetizers (i.e., hummus, spicy hummus, dolma) a lot better than their entrees. Also, I really like their vegetarian dishes better than their meat dishes. The meat at Gyros Gyros, honestly, is just lacking in flavor. And, despite their name, I generally avoid their gyros (unless I get a felafel one, or some other vegetarian option). Still not my favorite Mediterranean gig on University Ave. (that honor goes to the spot a little bit further down the road, Oren's Hummus Shop), but it's a decent place for a quick bite with some friends!

My husband and I came here for dinner awhile ago. I had the chicken gyro ($7.50ish), which I really liked. The chicken had a good seasoning and wasn't too tough and the veggies tasted fresh. The sauce wasn't overwhelming and seemed to be a little bit more than just a plain yogurt sauce. We honeymooned in Greece last summer and this gyro was definitely on par with the best ones we had in Greece. My husband had a lamb and beef gyro and wasn't a huge fan. He tried mine and agreed it was really good though, so maybe their chicken is better than their other meats. Granted, it is just a wrap, but there aren't many places in Palo Alto where you can get a meal for under $8, and it will definitely fill you up. Palo Alto is saturated with Med/Middle Eastern places, but this is up there amongst my favorites alongside Oren's Hummus (Med Wraps is way, way overrated in my opinion). We will definitely return.

A late night call for some good eats. I couldn't decide on what to have so like any hungry person trying a restaurant for the first time, I got the combo Gyro dinner platter. Lamb, Beef and Chicken. Flavored rice, salad and a damn good pita bread. The Lamb was far and away the best of the meats. A nice touch of seasoning cooked just right. The plate hit the spot and some, I had to loosen my belt before I hobbled to the car with a full belly. For a healthier variety of food this is my new go to spot. The wait is never long unless you hit that lunch time rush. Will I go back? Hell to the yeah! Already been.

While people working here are friendly, the prices and portion sizes for the casual, "fast food" type of a place this is does not add up. $15.95 for a fish combo plate will get you a shrimp cut in half, two tiny pieces of fish, one scoop of rice and a tiny portion of salad. The same goes for the veggie platter and chicken dish. Prices are too high for what you get.

Lamb gyros was one of the worst I've ever had. Stale bread, tough grey meat, tasteless sauce... frozen dinner level bad.

The food is very tasty and the prices are reasonable. My favorites are lamb and beef gyros plate, and lamb shish kebab

I'm a big fan of Gyros Gyros for a few reasons. First off, the location is actually really great, despite being in downtown PA. Parking is usually easier the further down University Ave you get, and the fact that Gyros Gyros is almost at the end of the commerical area is nice. Next, I like the breezy, cafeteria-like ambiance. It's not the nicest set up what with people going up and down the center to get their takeout and the wind breezing through, but on a nice day, it's nice. Try to snare a seat by the wall and you'll be fine. Or sit outside - always a nice option save for annoying passers by ogling you while you eat your gyros platter. Finally, the food is great at a reasonable price (reasonable, not great - maybe a buck more expensive than things should be). I love the chicken gyros salad, which they'll also make with the lamb/beef combo. A ton of meat atop a smallish salad of lettuce, cukes and tomatoes, and it's tasty as heck. If you want more food, get the gyros platter, which is the same tasty meat and salad but with added rice. Other middle eastern standards are above par - hummus, falafel, etc. - and they have this tomato/eggplant dish that is awesome. The one thing I will say is that their actual gyros aren't so amazing - a bit dry, to be honest - but if you spice it up with a lot of spicy sauce, you may be able to get past it. Drinks are a bit too expensive (no refills), but the folks behind the counter are friendly and the guys who bring your food are very helpful.

My most recent visit to Gyros Gyros was on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon. I decided to eat at a place in University since it was close to Ikea and I chose Gyros Gyros. The falafel wrap that I had wasn't bad but it also wasn't the best that I've had. Seeming that I was starving, I would think that everything I eat would be heaven but the wrap just wasn't doing it for me. The service was really good though. But I do remember that I still had to wait quite a bit to get my food even though it was already past 2 pm. I think my favorite part about this place was that I was able to secure outdoor seating. People watching + Food = Better than Youtube

Lamb and beef gyro wrap - Did they preslice the lamb and beef?? Bland. This is definitely NOT halal. But they DO have a nicely stocked refrigerated section by the register, showcasing fresh meats.. Maybe I should try something from there. I believe hot sauce should only be necessary when the taste of the food is subpar. This was definitely the case.

This is my boss' favorite Mediterranean restaurant so for his birthday, I ordered it for catering. (I organized a surprise birthday lunch for him!) I ordered: the Appetizer combo which included Dolma, Hummus, Baba Ganush, Tabouleh, Sautéed Green Beans, Falafel, etc. ALL YUMMERS. I'll give it a "4". The pita bread was warm & semi - burned on the ends, which I loved. For the Main dishes, I opted for the Kebabs. Chicken (so good & tender. finger lickin' good) Lamb (a bit hard to eat. not a fan) Beef (the peppers definitely gave it a nice kick. Yum) Veggies (this was a crowd's favorite since it had corn, carrots, zucchini, cucumbers, mushrooms was my fave). I will give it a "4". (Not a huge fan of the lamb. So hard to eat, what the hell?!) Over - all, the crowd was pleased & quite happy with the selection. All platters were finished, even the rice! Kudos also to Dino & Oxana who helped me with my order & worked out the $$$ to fit into my budget. Great people. Great food. Definitely will order again. What are you waiting for? T-R-Y!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went during the mad lunch rush and was happy with how fast they moved the line. I wasn't wowed with my gyro, however. It had good flavor, but I felt a little unsettled after; I just didn't think the lamb was very good. Everything looked and smelled really good and the place was nicely decorated, so I'd give it another chance. And, I didn't try the Baklava which is supposed to be great there.

Great Gyros and some of the best falafel in the area. Cash only!

I came here with a friend recently. I'm not a huge fan of gyros so I wasn't expecting anything great. However, after eating the vegetarian combo wrap, I stand corrected. It was quite delicious. The wrap looked like a huge burrito. However, it was stuffed like a Chiptole burrito so everything in the wrap doesn't actually fall out when you eat it. The veggie burrito was full of that veggie meat (not sure what it is!), cucumbers, tomatoes and lettuce. I definitely enjoyed eating it all.

Maybe I'm biased because my bf raved about this place..and I inevitably followed his lead. My first and only time here so far and I really enjoyed my food. I ordered #32 plate with beef and lamb gyros with a small serving of rice under the meat, salad, and a plate of pita bread. Okay I'm not a huge Mediterranean food critic but if it tastes good, I'll eat it. Salad was nothing special though. And the meat was standard. (I've only had gyros a handful of times). When everything was mixed altogether on my plate, with a dash of hot sauce and tzaziki, it was delightful.

My girlfriend and I used to come here all the time for the gyro wraps, which are solid. Their amazing homemade spicy sauce (in the red bottle at each table) really put this place over the top. Unfortunately though, the owner has switched away from their homemade sauce to store-bought, and the difference is huge. I'm afraid we won't be coming back here due to the change.

Was in Palo Alto on business and yelped restaurants nearby and this place caught my eye. I'm glad I came here. The food beat my expectations. My friend and I ordered the lamb/beef gyro and mixed combo grill plate. All meats were very flavorful. Highly recommend this spot.

This place is a good value -- We always get the lamb&beef gyro. It's pretty generously sized. Mmm, mmm, good. Street parking is scarce, but there's a parking garage on Cowper, next to California Pizza Kitchen.

I ate from here today for lunch using Waiter.com and I was happy with the result. I ordered the Tabouleh and it was fresh and flavorful. The only thing I didn't care for was the pita bread, it was dry and tasted like it had been sitting too long at the grocery store.

I love middle eastern/mediterranean food but so many places are surprisingly mediocre. You know, stuff that's been sitting around for a while, mass produced (yet sold as home-made), bland, too something or other (salty, greasy, acidic etc). This place is terrific. Just plain terrific. Very flavorful, fresh, prepared with care. Nice folks. The place itself is pleasant, well ventilated, affordable. Clean bathrooms, too. My only disappointment is not having discovered it sooner!!

Went there for lunch today and I am now a huge fan. Very nicely decorated, I like the high ceilings and the decorations they have on the walls. They have outdoor seating which is a huge + especially on University Ave which is a great place to sit, enjoy the weather and people watch. I had the lamb and beef gyros ($6.95) which was delicious, one of the best that I have had. I really enjoyed the rice pudding ($3.50) at the end which was amazing and one of the best that I have ever had as well. My friend had the salmon and was very complimentary.

I've been going to this place for a few years now so i thought i'd take a few minutes and tell you about them. The place is small but fine for causal dining. The staff is very friendly as the person behind the register always has a smile and is energetic about helping you find a good meal. My usual is the #9 and it is very good, fresh and hot (and i like the tortilla a bit burned to make it crispy). The wraps are very large and on occasion i've shared with family given the size...good value. It was my favorite place to get a gyro until Opa! in Los Altos opened but it still very good. The friendly folks inside along with a buzz in the area being on University is still a good draw. Check it out.

  • Claudia P.

Tried #9 Lamb & Beef Gyro and Grilled Swordfish Plate. The Gyro wasn't bad. But I like the one at Mediterranean Wrap better. The Grilled Swordfish Plate was much better. It was pretty light but not gaudy. I especially liked the rice that came with it! Got a Spanakopita to-go. It was more on the salty side to me. Overall, the food might just be O.K, but the location and the ambience makes it a perfect spot for me to hang out with friends on weekends.

I have recently been getting the chicken gyro salad with lamb. The chicken gyro salad is great but for an extra 50cents you can get lamb on it too. No brainer - bring on the lamb please! It's the best! Although getting it all rolled up as a gyro is probably a close second.

Haven't been here in months, and it really is quite a shame cuz I love the hummus at this place! I had been a bit mixed on hummus after my first few exposures to it, but was totally won over after having it here. The pita that came with it though was awesome the first time, but slightly disappointing the second time (a bit burned?). The first entree I had ordered here though wasn't that impressive overall (been so long, I can't remember what it was), but have since discovered the wonder of their mixed combo grill plate. With the assortment of meat they give you on that platter, it's like any carnivores dream meal. The serving was pretty generous, so it couldn't hurt to split the plate, especially if you're on a date. ;) In any case, the price is about on point for where you are and what you get. I'd just recommend you get yourself a plate of that hummus though.

  • Anthony S.

Watch out!.. First, the person ringing the register has the plastic gloves on handling money and also touching food items. Whats with that? Take the gloves off please before you handle the money!! If they do this, you have to wonder what is going on in the back of the kitchen! Next they charge a dollar extra for substitution of hummus for salad and rice on one of their plates. Turns out they give me a tiny cup of hummus and still gave me the rice! Not only did they screw up the order but it was really absurd what I ended up with for 10.95+1.00 extra! Lots of places to go on University - pass by this one.

I kinda love this place even though I don't go very often. The place has a good indoor dining vibe and they have some nice tables outside too if you have a dog that you're bringing to lunch. I have only ever ordered the gyros here. And they're sooo yummy for a lunch. Super filling and full of flavor. I don't eat lamb (if you've read my other reviews I have sheep and don't believe that I should eat animals I've had as pets) but I order their chicken and it is darn tasty too. I know my friend usually order the beef/lamb combo which looks tasty but I've never tried. The place has pretty good service and pretty fast if you're only ordering a gyros. They've never gone the extra mile for me service wise but I have no complaints. Definitely love to come here on the weekends when I jsut want a quick lunch

My girlfriend and I decided that wherever we found parking on the impossible University Avenue in downtown Palo Alto, that was where we will have our late lunch. The parking God was on our side and just as we said that, a car pulled out of a street parking space and we grabbed that spot in a heartbeat. After we got out of our car, Gyros Gyros was in front of us. We were thinking to ourselves - Perfect! The both of us love Greek/Mediterranean food. Walked in and walked up to the counter and placed our order. We shared a combination appetizer platter, a Spanakopita and an order of 2 pieces of Baklava for dessert. Our combination appetizer platter came with hummus, dolma (grape leave stuffed with rice and herbs), falafel, Greek potatoes salad, Tabouleh Salad, Falafel, Cacik (homemade yogurt with diced cucumbers, dill and garlic) and eggplant appetizer salad. The appetizer platter was so huge and came with a generous amount of pita bread. Every item was fresh, well made, authentically Greek flavor (my dining partner could vouch for this since she visited Greek for a month and tasted the best Greek cuisine when she was there). The Spanakopita came out piping hot from the oven. The pastry is flaky and the feta cheese and spinach filling was creamy and delicious. It was perfect! We ended our meal with sharing an order of pistachio Baklava. The Baklava was flaky with a nice coating of honey syrup on the base, sweet, but not overpowering sweet. The pastry was flaky and light and the filling so decadent. One piece wasn't enough for me. I was so tempted to order a few more pieces to go. But knowing that next week I'll be in the Palo Alto area again, I can stop by just to pick up some Baklava. Overall, our impromptu lunch was a great fine and we got a nice and satisfying Greek cuisine without hoping onto a plane. $16 per person including drinks. What a great place. That goes to show that something being spontaneous and flexible will have good returns. Olpa!

Have been going there twice a week for past 3 months and I wish I could go more often. You might have to wait in a long line(thanks to their popularity/great food) or sometimes might have to wait more than usual for your order to arrive but for me, it has always been worth it. Their food is really delicious and fresh always... I wish it could have been located closer to my working place... I would love to eat here everyday! Would easily rate them as the best gyro shop in bay area!!! Definitely worth a try if you have not tried it once and trust me, you would never regret it! My recommendation: Lamb n Beef Gyro Wrap with extra meat or Lamb n Beef Gyro salad! Nothing beats their fresh gyro meat!

Best best best vegetarian eggplant roll. Nicely cooked falafel inside. Open later than most restaurants in Palo Alto

  • Kirt W.

Not bad...but...it's not really a gyro. More of a shawarma or doner. It's not in pita but some kind of wrap. Mine was tasty but a bit greasy. Also, their bottled water is from Costco. Really? It's the cheapest possible bottle of water at a typical bottled water price. Staff was friendly. There should be a prize for finding the bathroom.

prices scare you off here.. I mean it is no San Francisco.. this is Palo Alto.. but the prices are about the same.. So maybe i can imagine myself eating IN San Francisco... I've been on a Mediterranean phase after my so-called Indian phase which you witnessed through my reviews for Amber India!!! There was a short line today for lunch even in this gross rain weather that I detest. I ordered the Lamb and Beef Gyros... $7.35 it came out to.. The portion was not too small which was good.. Lots of meat and lettuce and sauce in there to perfectly enjoy a rainy day indoors... The meat was rich with flavors and cooked just right.. juicy and tender wrapped like a burrito in lafa bread.. i was like "DAMN.. this is seriously goood" Especially with the yogurt-ish white sauce that they put in... It tasted a bit sour but it was awesome.. It was kind of pouring into my mouth... a bit messy but yummy! the combination of lamb and beef was perfect... I am definitely coming back to try more of their other items here.. There are outdoor chairs and tables for a sunny day... and plenty of room for indoors also.. It may seem a bit cramp but it's okay! Fast service! Bathrooms are in the back and you have to go up the stairs though! Weird.. it feels like it is part of a house. I wonder how good their swordfish salads really are though.. is it really worth $11..................... I went back to work telling my coworkers.. i was still hungry though.. and they couldn't believe it because those gyros are pretty big too...

The people who work here are nice but the food is the worst Greek food I've had. I placed an order to go for a few people(and maybe thats where it all went wrong) but majority of us ordered the Lamb and Beef Gyro thinking that had to be the safest choice. Wrong!!! The wrap on the outside was as hard as cardboard, the meat was tasteless and the Tzatziki sauce was almost non-existent. I thought i was just being a hard critic but the other 4 people who ordered the same thing thought it was the worst Gyro ever. The Dolma and hummus is decent but this place is not worth the annoying traffic you have to go through on University Ave during lunch hour.

I pay a few dollars more to eat at Gyro's Gyro's instead of a fast food restaurant. I ordered chicken kabob and my date ordered the falafel wrap. We waited longer than usual for a fast food restaurant. The wait was worth it. The food was delicious and filling. The waiters maintained clearing out the empty plates and cleaning the table when a party was finished. No need to the tip because the waiters didn't serve drinks. The restroom requires a walk up a couple flights of stairs, lol.

Frigging delicious man. I recently tried every mediterranean restaurant on University (don't ask) and came to the conclusion that Gyro Gyro knocked all of the others out. The Lamb and Beef Gyro plate was oily and delicious. The pita bread is half fluffy with a bit of a stiffer bottom. Perfect for dipping. The meat is just one of those things that you think about and crave (which leads me to believe it's not very healthy!) Get after it.

Cheap, fast, not too greasy, and delicious! Its my favorite quick mediterranean stop in Palo Alto. I can't help always ordering the exact same thing - the lamb and beef gyro. Every time the plate gets put in front of me, I think to myself "this is HUGE..." and then 15 minutes later, I'm sitting back in my chair, smile on my face, with only a little crumpled ball of foil and some hot sauce remnants left on my plate.

"Jy-roe." That's how I pronounce it and I'm stickin to it! I love Gyro Gyros because the service is quick and friendly. During the lunch rush, smiles are still present even though I can tell they are super stressed. What's great is that they know what they're doing so once you place your order in, the wrapping process begins. The ingredients taste really fresh and when it's lunch time and I'm strapped on time, I don't have to worry about taking up my entire lunch time. Try it or miss out .

The hummus is either spot on or terribly bland and tasteless. Yesterday I ordered a falafel plate and when I got back to my office there was only green salad and hummus. ??? No falafel or eggplant salad?!! I called and they met me on the street with another order. I've tried this place a dozen times but it's inconsistent at best with tiny portions. The staff is super friendly though.

Im drving down university craving a gyro. I've driven and walked on university ave a million times, then I look and see gyro gyro, I quickly park and ask my wife to quickly walk to check this place out. It's just good. If you like greek food, this place is it, it's kindof hidden, but not.

My review will be based on the only thing I've tried hear (I have gotten it about 10+ times) - the lamb and beef gyros Although it isn't that great, especially at ~7 bucks, it's good enough to bring me back from time to time... to time... It's pretty dry and a bit bland but what flavor it does have is great. For more flavorful food with some similar items - try Robaii, it's just a block away.

Good lunch spot in downtown PA. They have several lunch plates, both veggie and non-veggie, and each come with a Greek salad and pita. I had the hummus plate, and it was a great, fairly light lunch. Plus it was only $5.75, so no complaints there. I'll definitely be back.

This place is great if you want something quick. Gyros are the best for a quick fix. I really enjoy the chicken gyros since I do not eat red meat. The falafel is okay, on different occasions its been dry. Overall, the employees are nice and you can get something quick here if your on university

My husband and I just happened to be in Palo Alto and wanted to eat lunch. We walked down Univ and went into the first place we saw which was Gyros Gyros. I ordered the Falafel wrap and hubby ordered Chicken wrap. The falafel was tasty and the balls were huge... (lol) the Falafel Balls that is...HA. Hubbies chicken was moist and flavorful. The wrap bread was too much and a bit dry but over all it was yummy!

I don't know where people are getting this bland taste from. I've been eating here for about 5/6 years now and it has ALWAYS been amazing. I order the #21 chicken gyro plate. LOVE the salad, rice and yogurt sauce. The sauce alone is one of the best parts of this place. I could eat their food everyday, in fact, I have yet to find another greek restaurant I like more. The only downside is that it appears that they have made their portions smaller but prices the same in recent years. Sad. But still a fantastic place on the University strip, don't miss it just because its at the end!

Pretty good Mediterranean food. The plates are a good deal and you can have hommous, babaghanoush, tabouleh as well as your choice of falafel or meats. Everything tastes good and it's a casual enough joint to just swing by for a quick snack or grab a quick take out for later.

I think this is a great little shop with a friendly owner, and hot deals on legit Middle Eastern food in a normally very expensive locale. It almost has a neighborly feel to it.

One night I only had 30 minutes to grab dinner and go. This place was close and I heard great things, so I got their chicken gyro plate. I'm sad to say, the meat was so dry I just ate the rice instead. The side veggie dishes/salad were also too sour for my liking, so all in all, not the best gyro place I've ever tried, and I don't think the meal was worth the ~$12 spent.

    (2)

Meats/falafels fresh enough and service nice enough. I just prefer my gyros and falafels in a pita, not as a wrap and they only do wraps. Bummer.

My husband and I were looking for something fast and very casual last Sunday night (after an hour of tennis, we needed something very casual...) This was the perfect spot to go for a quick, tasty, very relaxed bite to eat. I really enjoyed the hummus and the greek salad. My husband loved the combo plate he got with tons of meat. I wish we had saved room for dessert.

I love falafel's! This place is great for lunch & dinner. However it gets really packed around noon time so seating is limited. Falafel's wraps, fresh pastries, Greek plates, hummus plates, and vegetarian plate( surprisingly very filling) are all great picks. Its affordable and not over priced. They have outdoor seating so its nice to get some sun before you head back to your windowless office or cubicle.

  • Cedrick C.

Very simple Mediterranean style without pretense, it benefits from being in the center of Palo Alto and the tables on the street really give a feeling of being around the Mediterranean sea. The cuisine however was under average, I guess in that case I picked the wrong stuff: Shish kebab as a wrap, I expected it served as they do in Europe, but it looked more like a meat log. Again I will try this place again and hopefully it will get a better rating. Bottom line, do not try the Shish kebab wrap.

  • Stephen L.

I either get a lamb and beef gyro or a lamb and beef pita plate depending on my hunger level. This is good college-friendly stuff. Sure, there are probably better gyros around, but this is quick and reasonably priced. Plus, there are about 15 ways to say the word gyro, and at Gyros Gyros you get two opportunities! That's 225 combinations!

    (4)
  • Andrew M.

Whenever I need that gyro wrap fix, I come here. The lamb+beef, chicken, and the combination gyro wraps are good here. Their hot sauce is so awesome because it's actually really hot. I made the mistake of getting a gyro wrap to-go and squeezing a crap load of hot sauce that they have at every table in my wrap. I could only stand to eat a quarter of it. So don't do that. I really wish they had fries here, gyros and fries just go together...like tuna fish and lamb.

  • El Guapo G.

Nice little coner Gyro shop. Seating is prett limited around lunch time so many peope just take their food to go. They have a greek chicken salad which is really light, yet filling, and very tasty and not too expensive. Theiry Lamb and Beef rice plate is also pretty good if you're hungrier. I come here about every other week for lunch and it's always under $10.

Decent, quick and cheap. If you are looking for a chicken Gyro, Cafe 220 a few blocks away on University Ave has much more flavor and has better quality chicken.

Typical college town fast greek food. The gyros wrap has too much dry wrap. The gyros plate is better and comes with a side of pita, rice and salad. Hot sauce is in the ketchup dispenser and a good combination with the gyros lamb/beef. I'm a fan of their rice pudding and baklava.

    (3)
  • Yan Biao B.

Pretty decent place. I drop by occasionally for a late lunch on weekends or a dinner. Always seems to have fair number of people in it. I think I prefer the Gyros House and Rose Garden in Mountain View though, but this place is not shabby either.

    (3)
  • Kim C.

During my gyro craze phase, I gave this place a try and their gyros weren't too bad, but I've definitely had better. Their combo gyro was a bit dry and bland so the hot sauce became my best friend. Although it may not be my first choice to go for gyros, I would probably still come back if I dont feel like traveling farther to get a tastier gyro.

Ok i hear what most of you are all saying about the prices here, yes a little too overwelming but def worth it! Myself being meditteranean, this food lives up to my standards at least. My spouse and me will come here every chance we are swinging though palo alto! The gyros are so delish. As well as their homemade yummy hummus and cacik! Oh my god! Do you have to taste that mouthwater creamy cucumber dip with pita break. There have many meals that my greek side makes when i am with them and it serioulsy make me feel like i am home with them. The customer service is great and they def meet their time limit when they say it will be ready. This diner def gets busy so pick the right time to sit outside for a small afternoon snack and enjoy the buzzing of zsounds in your ears or inside for a cozy piece of the meditteranean with some authetic music swimming around you! Cause in the end, it's really your choice for your stomach!

I drive down to this place from Sunnyvale just for their falafel wraps and bakalava. This place is the best when it comes to mediterranean food. I've tried a few other greek restaurants for falafels and no one even comes close to this restaurant. The food, ambience, service and prices are simply fantastic.

really like the meat in their lamb wrap but prefer the taste more at cafe 220 of the adana wrap

i usually get the beef and lamb gyro...or the plate...pretty decent food for the price you pay. Though it seems as though the serving sizes are getting smaller.... it's an ok place for lunch...my recommedation is come before 12...usually a long line after that.

Love the gyros and the shish kebab plates here. The gyro wraps are also excellent. The plate always comes with tasty rice pilaf and a refreshing salad as well. Outdoor dining allows me to bring my doggie friends who all adore gyro gyro food as well.

This is an ok place. Their food isn't bad, though the atmosphere and design of the place was pretty nice. The guy that took our order wasn't mean but he kinda had an edge to the way he asked what kind of plate one of us ordered. I didn't really like that much. It's been a long time since a cashier or server used that tone with us. Although later, when we were almost done eating, he was pretty nice about switching our empty napkin holder with a full one. We prefer other mediterranean places over this one.

It's good and quick...reasonably priced for downtown Palo Alto. Gyro is good but not great. They have a fish salad - it's either salmon or mahi mahi tuna - filet grilled w/ a very nice salsa. Another favorite is their spanakopita - quite good but make sure to eat it while it's hot.

There's nothing about this place I don't like. The food's absolutely brilliant! The only food item I'd give 4 stars would be the hummus and the baba ganoush.

  • Wade Y.

I've been here only 3 or 4 times, and have ordered the same thing every time (the beef and lamb gyro). It's a little different than other gyro places I've been to. They wrap the gyros and press them, almost like a greek burrito. Since I like things on the spicy side, I use the chilli sauce they have on the tables to kick things up a notch. Very tasty, and not too expensive.

Somehow every time I come by on Friday night, there are singles sitting lonely at each table. But other times it's full of lovely conversation about work and grad school. Relatively cheap, so why not?

  • Michelle G.

Ok, maybe I didn't order the right thing to eat around here, since some reviews claim that the food here is great. I just ordered a boring gyro with chicken. It was 1:00, I hadn't had lunch yet and my lunch hour was just about over since I spent the whole time arguing w/some dumbass tech across the street at Sprint (do not go there, BTW). Needless to say, I was in a HURRY and stopped in. The order came quick and was wrapped well in foil like a burrito. And it really tasted like one, but a really dehydrated one that just walked through the desert. I don't know, maybe I will come back to order something different when I'm not in such a hurry but my first impression of the food wasn't that memorable. At least it's fast and cheap. That's about it. Ho hum.

hmmmmm.... I really like this place....I usually stop by and get something to-go on the way home. The Mousaka is why I stop there, mucho excellente with potatoes even..... and the Kefka Gyro, I had was not dry.... must agree with Andrew, the owner is very friendly and it is an inexpensive place in a neighborhood not known for cheap.

  • Jana K.

If you want a quick and cheap Mediterranean meal, this is acceptable. Chicken gyro pita is good as well as their lamb and beef gyro plate. I wouldn't order the chicken kabob pita wrap again because the chicken was too dry and tasteless last time I tried it.

Get the #30 Falafel Plate. This place is fantastic for lunch.

    (5)
  • Kim N.

The gyros here are just giant dry burritos. Seriously, the wrapper tasted like week old tortillas and the meat was flavorless and boring. The only thing that I found redeeming about this place was their hummus. It was thick and creamy and not too sour like most places make it.

    (2)
  • Efi S.

The food is ok. I think the size is really good for the price. Best thing really is just sit and enjoy university avenue while eating.

  • Sirin H.

I gave 5 to this place, because so far, as one of the Mediterranean restaurants/cafes in the Bay Area, it is reallly "wohoooo! as good as it gets!" - as yelp wants me describe it. Whenever I crave for Mediterranean food, I always come here. If you like meat dishes the best choice would be the combo mixed grill (kebab, chicken, lamb and beef). The meat is delicious and juicy. Between the vegetarian dishes I would absolutely recommend the falafel plate. It is very crispy outside and moist inside. Also, you can get the appetizer combo which allows you to sample pretty much all of the appetizers. Their hot sauce is pretty good for the type of meat that they serve. Now, ready for the baklava? It's literally the best baklava around the bay so far, especially if you pick a very crispy, dark brown one from the tray. I would suggest that if you end up eating here, go with the dish plates rather than having gyros. When served on the plate, the meat comes with rice and salad. Another reason to go for the plate option is not to have this weird sauce that they put on gyros - which is not actually Mediterranean at all-. So, go with the plates! :) I have never had a chance to try the tropita and spanakopita but for sure they are on my list to taste :)

I know I just wrote this review, but I have to mention that the Swordfish salad here ROCKS. It's just cooked so well and serves as a nice change of pace to the rest of the menu here.

    (4)
  • J G.

Food is delicious. The combo appetizer is really good (includes pita bread, hummus, tzaziki, tibouli, dolmas, etc.) and could be meal by itself. I'd have to agree with the other reviews, the hummus really is that good. For an entreè, you can't go wrong with the combo grill (which includes chicken kabobs, shaved meat, salad, more hummus & pita, more dolmas, etc.), it is very tasty and the meat is seasoned nicely. To wash it all down I recomend the baklava very highly. Unlike other restaurants, they give a generous stack of flakey layers smothered in syrup. Very, very good. The service is cafè style, meaning order at the counter but the food is brought to the table. You also have to get your own cuttlery, which is located to the right of the register. Bathroom is clean, but is upstairs for some reason. Reasonbly priced for downtown Palo Alto.

    (4)
  • Stephan N.

You order at the counter but they bring your food to you. The food was good up until my friend found a piece of hair in her food. My food didn't taste good anymore after that. At least it didn't look like hair from the pubic region. Around $11 for a plate or $8 for a gyros. Not cheap but not expensive either.

I thought i hated lamb forever. the lamb here is good and its not gammy. Id definitely come here again, the combo wrap makes me vibrate in vigorous joy

    (4)
  • Aaron L.

A longtime favorite in Palo Alto. Their Adana Kebab wrap is the best wrap in town. It's a juicy and slightly spicy beef/lamb mix and lots of veggies wrapped in Lavash. Their babaghanoush is great too if you like it smokier and less creamy.

  • Vlad V.

Meh. Cramped space, somewhat small tables. Cafe 220 down University is much better.

The falafel plate is a very tasty and healthy vegetarian option. The service during both of my visits was prompt and excellent. I'm pleased.

  • Amar K.

Last night I went here with 6 friends before we caught our movies at the Stanford. Everyone, meat-eaters and vegetarians alike really njoyed their food. Falafels are really good, I've tried the wrap twice (could be a little wetter for my taste - but still delicious) and next time will have to try the falafel plate. Really yummy baklava. Prices on the menu are slightly higher than those in the pic area, but still very reasonable. A yummy time was had by all~ also the pita was good, which I simply cannnot say for all Medeteraian places- save room for dessert.

I'm on a gyro kick lately, and stumbled upon Gyros Gyros one day on Yelp while near University Ave. I walked in, and ran into my son's former adorable nanny - always a good sign to see friends dining in restaurants you want to try. The lamb and beef plate is excellent - my go-to staple! My husband loves the combo plate. And then, there's the baklava. We're now huge fans and get take out about once a week! The staff is very friendly and nice too!

This place has served me probably the second gyro I've ever had in my life - and I didn't even order lamb, just chicken. However, the gyro I did eat was pretty good and enough to feed a small village. That being said, the meat is held on huge rotating metal rods and kept warm, the cooks cut the meat fresh off the slab and add it to your food. And they give you a hefty amount - I was just coming off a work out with my brother when we stopped here. I definitely ate more than was necessary, but once I started eating I couldn't stop. I got the gyro with rice inside and the sauce on the side - for dipping purposes. I think the best part of the whole experience was the hot sauce. Honestly, I would go back just because of the hot sauce. It was so good, I don't have words to describe. It was one of those hot sauces that didn't take over the flavor of the food, just gave you heat when you least expected it. According to other reviews, next time I go back I'll have to try to chicken ka-bob plate. Anyway, the hot sauce made the whole experience for me.

Probably my favorite place to eat in Palo Alto. The decor isn't the best but the food is amazing and the prices are right. I love the low key nature because if they had to pay lots of money to rent a bigger place then prices would go up and I wouldn't get to go 2 or 3 times a week.

    (5)
  • Anita C.

Pretty yummy. Get there before 12 and there's no line. Found out about it via a recommendation from my mgr. Good portion size, and not too expensive. On University Ave, so it is also convenient to roam around after, too. There are also inside and outside seats. Many students and ppl who work around silicon valley around.

This place has the good stuff. I am a big chicken fan that is not chicken about trying anything chicken. They really tough my C spot with their chicken wraps. Its not about atmosphere here. Its pretty cramped in there. You have to watch yourself when you leave the table not to bump into someone else while moving your chair. Take out if you can....

    (5)
  • Cynthia T.

The prices are a little on the high side, but I think the food is worth it. This place reminds me of the perfect summer I spent working in Palo Alto and how I used to eat here for lunch almost every day. Their vegetarian options are all good and I particularly enjoy the hummus plate. It comes with a healthy dollop of delicious hummus, a cucumber salad topped with awesome feta cheese, and a plate of pita bread. And, of course, I top all of that off with an order of their delicious pistachio baklava. :)

  • Leejo J.

This place has a decent food menu with a good location on the University Avenue. I thought the lady in front was nice. I tried the Falafel wrap which was a decent meal, and was made fresh and was pretty fast. I was in no mood to eat when I walked in but after I came and saw the food had to try something and went with falafel coz it would be light. I think I would have a better review once I try their meat menu. Im still getting used to the idea that wrap and sandwiches are not the same in middle eastern place.

Great fast food greek spot. I've been going here for a 2 years, they are cheap, fast and the food is good for the price, chicken gyros are especially good. Staff goes in and out, some are friendly, some not, but it's not some great establishment so can't expect too much. It can get busy during lunch time, i usually went in off peak times so it wasn't bad but would call ahead if you want something and 15 min later if will be done when you arrive. Hummus, salads, gyros are good.. baklava not so much

This place sells college food, that is food served in quantity over quality. Luckily this is exactly what I was looking for. I was hungry but didn't want to eat by myself at some Zagat rated restaurant. The beef and lamb gyro comes out on a plain white plate without any decorations. The gyro is wrapped up tight like a burrito. It's such a strange site but inside the ingredients are tasty and fresh. Lettuce, tomato, some kind of mayonnaise, and lafa bread. I would rather call this a shawarma instead of a gyro. I typically imagine a gyro with fluffier pita bread. Although the ingredients inside the "gyro" work together, the bread is wrapped around four times. The wrapping creates a dense barrier that really makes your teeth work. Near the end where the bread congregates, it felt like I had been chewing gum all day. Inside is very relaxed. Great for college students and the self serve lovers. The only ambiance you'll get is soft Mediterranean music in the background. Seating inside serves 15-20. Decent food at decent prices, perfect for college student or fast food takeout.

I came here last night and ordered a #9 (combo lamb/beef gyro). Two bites into my gyro and I see a giant SCREW in it. We bring it back to the cashier and she shows the cook, who laughs and points at the meat cutter he was using. The screw had fallen off of the tool. Their food is mediocre at best, but the customer service is piss poor. The cashier only slightly apologized and then made us a new gyro. I'm not expecting a free meal, but if someone finds a screw in their food, they could have sued. I'm really most upset at the fact that neither one of the workers seemed to care that a screw ended up in the customer's food. I wouldn't go there again.

I have never done this before. Change a review from 4 to 2 stars? Well, after discovering this place, I went back again and again. I went alone, I went with friends, I even came here with my dad because I thought it was just amazing. Well, it hasn't been amazing since. The gyros are dry. I've had both varieties, the beef/lamb as well as the chicken. Dry dry dry. And the sauce is not spicy enough! If you reheat leftovers and put the wrap in the microwave for a minute and a half the thing will get soggy and the wrap will melt into the meat. Then the sauce will ooze all over the plate and the lettuce will get soggy. If you pick out the lettuce and tomatoes, the mushed meat/wrap mixture globbed over the sauce tastes much better than a fresh gyro.

A pretty straight forward Mediterranean/gyro place in PA. The interior decor is not spectacular, but it's not dirty, either. The service here is in the Mediterranean vein: they don't really seem to care/slightly aloof (but not Parisian...). But they will take your money and they're not out and out rude. The food is foog, although I've only had the veggie wraps. Prices are decent.

I like my gyros and have tried gyros at a lot of different places and hands down this was the best that I have found in the Bay area. The customer service was excellent and the food was VERY TASTY!! I will be back for sure. The only down fall was seating availability they were so busy that we almost had to get the food to go.

Long lines to order, long wait for food, but by and far the BEST hummus I've ever had. I normally order the chicken kebab plate which is okay but not anything to write home about. The portions are big, though. You could easily share with a friend and both leave full. Supplement with the pita and hummus though. ;o)

This is House of Kabobs impostor superimposed in a nice posh neighborhood of Palo Alto. It has everything that HoK has - bright neon light, order-at-the-counter format, dudes of middle eastern appearance taking your orders and bringing the food to the table - with the exception of two things: quality and price. I vaguely remembered what I ordered - I think it's shish kabob in a wrap. My memory is a bit hazy because: 1) I went there two weeks ago and I have early senility 2) The food itself was so forgettable, even though the disappointing experience wasn't 3) I have a backlog of Yelp reviews to write thanks to two months of working 80 hours a week.

Came here after the Yelp event at Junnoon and picked up some gyros and beers with some fellow elite yelpers and this place really hit the spot after not attempting to nibble of the samplers at the event. I ordered the combo gyro which compromised of lamb, beef and chicken and I have to say It was def not as good as last time I came here. My gyro really lacked any reall flavor to remember it by, although it was okay and did the trick I really can not recall much of how it taste as I had to use plenty of hot sauce to add flavor to my meal. I also thought this place was more affordable than it came to as when we arrived this place was closer to 7 or 8 dollars when I thought it was closer to 5. sorry everyone who came with me. Failure to achieve and affordable meal. I still spent almost $10 dollars and it was not $10 good. OH well it saved me when I was hungry, not sure If it will be on my list to return but late at night if they are open I will probably be seen here again.

Love this place. It can get pretty busy at lunch time, so either come early or late. I always get their lamb/beef gyro. Perfect amount of ingredients in each bite. Love how the gyros stay together when you eat them. Huge brownie points in my book. Seating inside and out. There is a parking garage across the street. Gyro Gyro is a solid 4 stars...yummers !

  • Ankita S.

I'm pretty sure if my boyfriend was writing this review, he would have given it all 5 stars. We really do like this place though. We never have to wait for a table and the food comes out in great time. I usually get the combo "yeeero" (with extra hot sauce on the side) and my boyfriend usually gets an Aldana combo plate. He likes his combo because the flavors of the aldana meat is usually spot on. My gyro can be on the dry side but the hot sauce/extra yogurt helps. Some baklava to finish off the meal and I'm a happy camper!

You're dyamn right I'm a fan, I'm like Bob Denver on acid playing the accordion at Gyros Gyros, pronounced, Guy-rows Guy-rows. Just like it looks, this is America, you pronounce it however the hell you want to as long as it's not the way they intended. First of all may I say, bravo to their late hours, unlike the rest of the jerks downtown who close early, Borders not included, Gyros keeps it real fairly late, that is for us pre-bar crowd... ladies. I'm all 'bout Falafel Wrap. It'll fill you up, and out, if you know what I'm saying... ladies. It's a matter of tonnage. Okay? It's three falafels to the ton, and two ton's shy of a metric system. WHICH is why the F-wrap is your best bet when it comes to guyroes Gros. The women are... so hot. The men are... so moustacheoud. You won't be disappointed when I say "Haraka Haraka Haina Baraka" to the hospitality at GG's.

Let me preface this review by saying that until now i have NOT been a fan of Greek or Mediterranean, but that was the past! I absolutely loved the Chicken Kabob plate - chicken was well seasoned and perfectly grilled and came with grilled veggies, delicious yellow rice and a fresh greek salad with tomatoes and cucumber. Definitely say YES to the hot sauce - it is super spicy and makes the meal absolutely mouth watering.

    (4)
  • E O.

I love going here. I love gyros (and this place makes decent ones). The Cal Ave. joint in Palo Alto has better bread (doesnt use tortilla wraps) and better condiments, but I love GG's meat. It's a lot nicer. The AZN hot sauce is also pretty good. Falaffel House is still where it's at, but I give GG 4 Stars 3 for convenient, fast, and reliable service. Open till 11! 1 Star for the big girl cashier...she always shows cleave....... Ask for Extra Meat, it's worth it for +$2.

Came here for lunch today, on a nice warm summer day and sat outside. I had ordered the lamb and beef gyro.. but only to be surprised when i got it because it was not the typical gyro you'd expect. instead it was more of a burrito like wrap. The taste was good but it was not what i had wanted. We also ordered the chicken gyro, which was also a burrito like wrap, but tasty well. I feel they should have been called wraps instead of gyros. The lamb shish kabab was tender and good. I'd order that instead of the gyros next time.

Nice people, but I could not taste much due to the stinging in my mouth from the sodium bomb (aka falafel wrap). Please cut your salt use by at least half! I would not go here again for that reason but if you like your food salty (and your blood pressure high) you will like it. Texture and other spices are good.

This place is awesome. I called in an order for lots of different things, for a catered lunch. Not only was all of the food fantastic (wow way to go on the kebabs) but the service was as well. The person that answered the phone was very friendly, and the guy at the register was full of smiles and helpful. He helped me carry all of the food out to the car, and made small talk along the way. Good service is hard to find, and especially in combination with good food. I highly recommend this place.

    (5)
  • Eric S.

The place is clean, if a bit lacking in Mediterranean character. But this is Palo Alto, so that is to be expected. The gyros are decent, although certainly not revolutionary. Big sticking point for me: There is clearly mayonnaise in that special sauce -- that's not tzaziki. Undisclosed mayo is unacceptable. I won't be going back, but I recommend that you try it if you don't have the same aversion to mayo that I do.

I love coming in here for a quick bite to eat before attending events at Stanford. The gyros are generous sized. and are made with fresh ingredients.

  • Ed L.

Got a couple wraps, one lamb and one fish. The lamb one was decent, same shawarma you can get at any Mediterranean restaurant. The fish one was very good; the grilled salmon was very soft and buttery and the tartar sauce made it even better. The wraps are pretty reasonable at about $7-8 and it's freshly made. Wraps are great for to-go orders or a meal on the run (except when you get the leakage of juice dripping from the bottom of the foil).

  • Shannon B.

Yummy!!! The food here is so incredibly good, and SO filling! I've had all of the kebabs, and the chicken one is my favorite. The owners are very friendly and always making conversation. It's quick, fairly priced and I definitely recommend the Baklava (melts in your mouth!) FYI : It can get very busy around lunch time! Especially during the work week.

Fist off I want to say the service here is excellent. The gal who always works behind the register at lunchtime is very fast and helpful. But about the food.... if you don't mind lettuce with your tabouleh salad (either mixed in with it or sitting on top of it), you're in luck (note, I just found out, they will take it out if you ASK them, but you have to ask). I am actually a big fan of iceberg lettuce, but NOT with my tabouleh! I feel like this place doesn't put enough lemon in their food... I've ordered from this place several times and always feel like something is missing. I've heard this place used to be a lot better but for some reason lately it's been sliding a little. Like I said, they have really good customer service. Their dolmas and falafel taste pretty decent, like any other place. They're good about giving extra tahini sauce. And my co-workers seem to love their chicken gyros, chicken plates, chicken salads. But I don't eat chicken. Mediterranean food is my favorite because there's tons of lemon in just about everything and it's supposed to be really flavorful WITHOUT meat. Please, people. Use more lemon. Grow a tree if you have to. Just add it!

This is a great place for cheap, fresh, tasty food that comes out fast. I like the big spanakopitas. Not a big fan of Gyros in general, but the BF always comes here for them.

  • Colleen C.

My husband and I both got falafel wraps. The falafel was okay, the hummus okay, the salad in wrap okay...but all together, I've really had much better. The combination of flavors was WAY too dry and needed either a sauce or more tomato to juice it up. The prices were rather high as well. Servers were pretty nice, although service was on the slow side.

we went to gyros gyros for a quick lunch. the place has a lot of potential, but i have to say i was disappointed. we had the chicken gyros pita and it just didn't do it for me. the yogurt dressing was much too tangy and almost sour. maybe it was old? and too much of it. very runny. i just didn't dig it. i would go back and try something else....but to me, it was very disappointing. i ended up getting a yogurt at red mango to subside my hunger until dinner.

I joined Yelp just to write a review of this place. I was so surprised to read past reviews of Gyro Gyro. The low ratings do not match my experience or taste bud's reactions. I absolutely love this place. The gyros are great - I especially like the pita bread, which they crisp up to add contrast to the juicy beef/lamb. Yummy! There are times that I crave this place - I've gone twice in one week before and I ALWAYS get the lamb gyro.

I'm gonna give this place a permanent 4 stars, however, today it was a 3. Usually, their falafel wraps are pretty tasty and fresh. But then again, I was eating at 10:30 at night. Maybe the oil it was fried in was old..I dont' know. My boyfriend had the special of the day: Fish salad. It was a perfectly grilled piece of salmon on a bed of greens - feta cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, Greek olives plus a side of pita bread. We go here often to enjoy other yummies like their lamb & beef gyros, shish kebab, and tiropita (cheese in a puff pastry!) how can you go wrong man!! cheese and carbs, always a good combo!

Open late, pretty good food, great staff. Recommend the combo mixed grill. It's one of the pricier things on the menu, but far and away the best!

Meats here are dry and bland. I probably would only come here again to eat if every other place that sells food in downtown Palo Alto were by some fluke of nature closed down.

LOVE this restaurant. I can eat here every day, the food is so good. The people working there are incredibly nice and did I mention that the food is amazing? You have to try the falafel wrap or plate with the baba ganoush (eggplant dip), it will blow your mind.

The "gyro" was pretty cheap and tasty but it wasn't quite the gyro I'm used to. Bell peppers were in it, no tomato, and I could swear it was bundled in a huge doughy tortilla? Fajitas Fajitas.

$6 gyro is a quick, tasty meal.

Great hole-in-the-wall for a quick bite! Yummy gyros, pitas, and fantastic appetizer platter (liked everything on it)! There was also some big, sort of spinach pastry puff thing that looked scrumptious -- but I restrained myself and didn't get it. But clearly, I still think about it from time to time.

there is better mediterranean food on university ave, but this is quick and convenient and gets the job done. if you are a regular they might sneak a little more meat on your plate, which is essential for growing boys like myself.

I try to get to this place once a month to get my chicken kabob dinner fix. This is by far the best I have had. Don't forget to have a piece of baklava too!!!

I was expecting to get something akin to the Gyro House in Mountain View, but I was sorely disappointed. My chicken Gyro was dry and had too much yogurt so it just tasted nasty.

it took a little while to come around on this place, but it's now definitely in the weekday dinner rotation. i like their wraps b/c they aren't overstuffed so they don't fall apart. they have lamb, beef, and/or chicken gyros or kabobs, as well as falafel that are all very good, and they're open relatively late. the staff is friendly, so all-in-all a highly recommended quick and easy dinner spot.

Take it from me, it took me over 4 weeks to write/finish this review. It's tougher to review a place when you are not overly excited and inspired about a place and I guess that's how you can call this food. There isn't anything that really knocks your socks off and at the same time there isn't anything really super wrong with it. I couldn't have said, "Meh. I've experienced better" any better. It's like reviewing a Mc'Donalds. Outside of you having an extreme 1 or 5 star experience it's just meh.

If you find yourself at Gyro Gyro someday, get anything with CHICKEN. Why 5 stars - I went here with a large group for an 11:30 Saturday lunch and they were so nice. First, they helped us secure a few tables and put them together with no problem. Then, we all ordered individually and paid at the counter (which is great for a group because then you don't have to figure out what you owe at the end of a meal) but still, our food came out back-to-back in great time. Everything was good enough but the chicken wraps or plates that I tried were great. Here's the best part... my friend has an apartment right above Gyro Gyro and was gonna store our cake in his fridge while we walked around but it wouldn't fit! Just by chance, I ask if they would store it for us and they DID!! Wow, that saved me so much headache and rushing around to the next closest friends apartment. 5 stars! See ya there. :)

Gyros Gyros is okay. I've had better, but then again I've also had worse. I ordered the chicken kabobs and the meat was flavored well and juicy. It did bother me a little that there were only 3 miniature slices of onion sandwiched between two of the chicken pieces. Come on... veggies aren't *that* expensive. The rice was a little too salty. Overall, it was good enough that I'd come here again, but not unless I run out of other options.

This place was good enough that I had to come back for lunch again, even with the fifty million other gyro/greek places on U. Ave. Their chicken ka-bob, a la carte, was excellent. Really flavorful, well seasoned. Second time around I had it in the pita, and it was fine too, though... the flavor was diluted by the pita and all the other stuff. My buddy had the lamb gyro and sat there raving about it, his mouth full. Not a pretty sight.

2.5 stars Quality and authenticity is lacking: not uniquely flavorful, not fresh, and according to my bf, too salty. Do yourself a favor and try Mediterranean Wraps

My family is part Armenian so I'm always on the look for good Greek or Mediterranean food since it's similar. This place is delicious and while it can get a bit busy that's to be expected on University. You must go here!! #22 is yummy :)

Gyros Gyros is intermixed with Apple in my mind since I typically have lunch here when I make the occasional midday visit to the Apple Store, which is only a half block away. This clean, attractive cafe can get very crowded at lunchtime on weekdays. The trick is to get here before noon because at exactly 12:00 the line instantly grows by 10 people and all the open tables disappear. No really, you could almost set your watch by it. Here's the rest of the breakdown: PARKING: Very tight at lunchtime but there is usually some street parking one block away on Hamilton, especially if you get there early SERVICE: Usually indifferent, but on one occasion the guy behind the counter was downright rude when I asked about something on the menu. You could say it was a New York moment. FOOD: --- Lamb and beef gyro wrap: The whole thing was grilled, so the lavash bread was warm with nice texture and crispy edges. The meat was pretty tasty and fairly tender. Veggies and sauce were good but not evenly distributed, leaving some parts dry others too wet. This was a better lamb/beef wrap than House of Falafel, but not nearly as good as Dish Dash. I'll have to give it 3 stars. Paid just under $8 - about average. --- Falafel Plate: A generous amount of food for the location and price: 5 good-sized falafel balls on top of a Greek salad, a large serving of hummus, yogurt sauce, pita bread, and some kind of cold vegetable tapanade. The latter seemed to be artichokes, peppers and tomatoes, but it was kind of hard to tell. Whatever it was, it was damn good. Falafel balls were fresh and moist, but about average. Plus they had an off-taste, kind of bitter. The hummus tasted fresh, homemade and garlicky. Good stuff. The orange-colored yogurt sauce made a good dip, and had a nice flavor which complemented everything else. The pita bread was store bought and nothing special. All in all, I had a nice lunch and polished my plate. I would order this again, despite the falafel ball mediocrity. Total price was around $8.50. Pretty standard. --- Chicken Schwarma Plate: Quite tasty. The chicken rocked! It was super moist, tender and flavorful. The only problem was they skimped on the quantity. The portion should have had been at least 50% bigger. The rice was delicious and moist. The salad was good also, with nice quality tomatoes and lettuce. And once again the orange-colored yogurt sauce was included. Total cost was $11 and change. I enjoyed my meal well enough, but can't give it more than an 3 stars based on the smallish portion of the chicken.

The place is small and the menu is limited. There were some annoying kids screaming and running around the place, then running outside and knocking on the window (WTF aren't the parents doing anything?!) despite all of it I had a great meal here the other night. Hummus was great and my vegetarian plate was fantastic. Service was quick and easy. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a casual plate to eat.

Stopped by Gyros one evening after getting a pedicure around the corner. I've eaten alot of Gyros when I was a kid so I was excited to see what this resturant had to offer. Because of dietary restrictions at the time, I was only doing vegetarian food. So I ordered the veggie wrap (red/green peppers, zuchini, onions, hummus, I think there may have even been carrots) and a side of fries. The veggie wrap was HUGE!! I don't think I even ate half of a half. The dish had great flavor, was well portioned, and from the time I ordered to the time it was brought to my table 15 minutes elasped. This was partly due to my friend sending her dish back to order something else. She ordered the chicken kebobs, and from all of the sounds she was making and the smiles coming from her direction, she seemed to enjoy her meal as well. Definitely worth the stop over if you're ever in this neck of the woods!

I can't remember the last time I was blown away by an affordable mediterranean joint!!!! My lamb & beef gyro pitta was scrumptious!! What a pleasant surprise!! The meat is flavorful and moist (not dry and bland like a lot of places) and the wrap was SO well put-together and easy to eat. Not to mention a sizable portion! Though I only planned to eat half, it is so delicious that I went for it all! Last but not least, the service was super friendly and nice, and the food was made fast, despite there being a few people ahead of me. My bf tried the salad though, and said it wasn't very tasty. So get the wrap!! It's delicious and very satisfying!!

3.5 stars and a thumbs up. Food is good not great. Very fair prices. Very fast and reliable for takeout. I order them all the time and really like most of what I get. It was going to be 4 stars just for being so fast and reliable for takeout so often for me, but didn't quite make it there since the food is not up to snuff. That said, I recommend this place for sure.

Sometimes, all you want for lunch is just something quick, filling, healthy with all the required nutrients, and most importantly - Yummy. Well, if you come at the right time, Gyro Gyro is the place to get that! I ordered the Lamb and Beef Gyros, first item on the Gyro list. No frills. And it was amazing. The Gyro was wrapped (which was new to me), and it was very neatly done so all i had to do was just sink my mouth into it, close my eyes to savour the taste of the meat, with the juices soaking right into the veggies, finally washing it off with the wrap. And that was just first bite. :) Needless to say, i didn't speak much when the food arrived. Bite after bite, soon it was all gone. And then it was back to reality. Dear Gyro Gyro, i will be back!

This place gets 2 Stars for the fact that they let us come in and eat when they closed in 15 minutes. I thought that was very considerate of them, however, the food itself was one star worthy. I had the chicken shawarma wrap. You could tell the meat was grilled but highly under seasoned - void of flavor. It came with lettuce, tomatoes and a yogurt dip/spread (flavorless as well). My husband had the hummus, which again was ok, but lacked garlic and cumin. Since they were so close to closing they decided not to bus any dirty tables. So as the remaining 3 tables, ourselves included, finished dining, the remaining 6-8 tables or so had dirty plates, napkins and leftover food on them. Again, I understand that they were close to closing, but you still have customers, my friend. If you're in the area, and it's not too late, go to Kan Zeman for great Middle Eastern food!! You won't be disappointed.

Reasonably-priced eats at a casual place. This is by far my favorite place in Palo Alto to grab a gyro for this reason alone: their chicken is marinated to perfection! Its tender juiciness is known to cause serious cases of mouth watering so make sure you grab plenty of napkins. Oh, and the spicy sauce that comes in that red bottle is divine. I usually order takeout and ask for some of the spicy sauce in a container and this is how it's done; this is how we reach nirvana, folks. I could seriously go on and on and on about their chicken kebab gyro, yes, that's chicken kebab gyro. Make sure to take note the chicken kebab gyro is the most flavorful over the regular chicken gyro. In any case, the greek salads at this joint are not so bad either. The ingredients are perfect, not too much or too little of anything, as well as the perfect blend of juicy flavor, with all crunch and no soggy bites. I'd say the most crowded time at this establishment is during the lunch hour. On a few occasions, I've seen the line reach just to the door, but never past it. No need to worry though because the fine folks working at Gyros Gyros seem to always cut the line down quickly. I've ordered in person and over the phone for years now and have never experienced any trouble. I love you, Gyros Gyros!

I have been getting my Greek food fix from Gyros Gyros for years and though I rarely ever order anything other than my favorite gyros wrap, I must say whatever I tried, I loved. As for appetizers, they make the best cacik around (ask for extra "bread" though). Small, casual place with very decent prices. I usually get take out and spend a max of 5min in there- that's how fast their service is! They have changing food specials, a good selection of drinks, including beer and wine, and every staff member is super friendly. I'll definitely keep coming here when I'm craving fresh, yet rich food!

Firstly, great falafels. Perfectly crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside. The dolma was good, the gyro plate was standout as well. The very attentive chef/owner(?) gets high marks as well for really seeming to care about his customers experience, along with having a great sense of humor.

I just got a new job on University Ave (yay me!) so I have taken it upon myself to review the entire city of Palo Alto - STARTING with the gyro place down the street from work. As you can see from the 3 stars, I'm not super enthusiastic about it. The atmosphere and outdoor seating was good, the food came quickly, the employees were kind - the food was unmemorable. In fact, if I had never had a gyro in my life and I came here, I would wonder how the Greeks ruled the world with such dry, bland food. There isn't much else to say, the dinner plates looked better than the wraps, but even then the meat still reminded me of the stuff that you get from Kebab stands in Europe (i.e. fast-foody) Overall, everything at our table looked like it was just ok. Sigh . . . it's so hard to find really good gyros.

  • Valeria S.

I ate at this restaurant yesterday with a friend and I got a chicken and beef kebob without the meal and it was like 8-9 bucks, I think I was just expecting cheaper because that really isn't a lot of money but for some reason our meal together was like $34 bucks. The food wasn't bad, I definitely liked the chicken over the beef kebob though.

Gets the job done when you have a Greek craving (I don't know about you but I get those often). I get the falafel wrap. It's big and satisfying - the perfect food for after walking The Dish.

I have been frequently eating here over the last 4 years, and it is the first place I would want to review. I think the service is friendly, and is one of the places that is open latest in downtown Palo Alto, which is a major plus for my wacky schedule. I really enjoy the outdoor seating too. They are consistent and reliably satisfying. Pretty fast service too. I almost always order the lentil soup (which is their "Soup of the Day" every day) and it always hits the spot. The veggie falafel plate and veggie falafel wrap are also staples. They have good hummus too. The baklava is good, on the sweeter side, and slightly pricy. I once tasted my friend's Adana (lamb), it was really good, the seasoning was great. I don't enjoy eating meat usually, so they get points for that. Highly recommend.

  • Yaniv H.

Wasnt a fan of the food so much. Maybe the seasoning just wasnt my thing. But when taking the food to go which in this case was chicken kabobs, there was this sludge of liquid or oil on the bottom that soaked up the foam box and pita bread. The Chicken was cooked ok though seems to have been dry - maybe from sitting out? Will try them again and eat there to see if its different.

I have been coming here for years. Just like with any restaurant, sometimes you have to wait a real long time to get your order, other times they have it ready within minutes. Just depends on how busy they get. But I've been to many, many other gyro places and I can honestly say you get the most bang for your buck here. The gyros are huge and mouthwatering, and their sides are to die for, and you have enough left over for some fro yo across the street!

After a bad taste in my mouth from a new taqueria restaurant along the street where I work, I decided to venture out along University Ave for a new place I haven't tried. At the corner of Cowper and University is a Mediterranean fast food restaurant that I wandered into. Gyros N Gyros is simply gyros. After reviewing the menu on the outside window, I found what I wanted. I ordered their #14 Combo Gyro which included lamb-beef and chicken, lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, and a light sauce all rolled into a pita wrap. My first impression was that it looks and feels like a burrito wrapped in foil. 8 inches in length and grilled outside. Once I took a bite, the sensory taste buds were overwhelmed with spices and a great fresh taste. What a refreshing alternative! I loved it. There was a hearty serving of chicken, lamb and fresh vegetables. The sauce was not overbearing and it brought out the ingredients' flavor. It took me about 15 minutes to eat it while savoring each bite. I bought a Snapple fruit punch as well to help with digestion. Terrific! Overall, the new experience was great! The bill came to $7.25 gyro, $2.10 Snapple, tax, and dining in totaling $10.21. I know this is one of my new favorite quick fix stops and will definitely be back for another lunch. Cheers!

I tried their Gyro salad for lunch today, and am really happy I did. I called in first and ordered it to go. When I got there 18 minutes later, it was wrapped in the bag waiting for me. There was only one wait person, but he was efficient, and reasonably pleasant considering he had 8 other customers in the line behind me to serve. When I had this salad at work, I first thought the portion was kind of small, but it was almost 80% tasty tender Gyro beef & lamb, and really filled me up by the time I ate 60% of it. The Greek style salad in the bottom was also zesty. It tasted so good I just couldn't stop at that, and ate more!! Wished I had bought some baklava too. Now I know why this place is still jam packed at 2pm and people kept pouring in. It's great to have some good reasonably priced Gyro and Mediterranean food options in Palo Alto. From now on I'll have to make a hard decision between this Gyro salad and Shawarma salad at Mediterranean Wraps each time I crave som Med food.

  • Alissa A.

You showed up hot and toasty and wrapped in lavash. And inside, your meat didn't let me down. When everyone else is denying you on Sunday night - they are open until 11PM. Bonus. The shish kabob (lamb cubes) and sliced beef/lamb gyros were both yum, quality meat. The sauce/tzatziki was a bit of a let down. Hummus was not my fave but my dining companion seemed pleased. Feeling green? A bunch of vegetarian options await you. The service was great - friendly and accomodating.

    (4)
  • S M.

First I forgot to bring my wallet. Then I come back to order the special - Veggie wrap. They make me wait for 15-20 minutes for a simple wrap. I was hungry and steaming. Then I see it on the grill. it was a perfect wrap with smoky flavor of bell peppers, tomatoes, humus, egg plant, onions, cucumbers, ... It was perfect creation.

Whether it's pronounced "Jie-ros Jie-ros" or "Yeros Yeros", I'm sure in Greek it means the same thing; "Good Good". Today is Good Friday, which is thankfully my last Friday of foregoing meat during Lent, so I decided to have their Falafel Platter for lunch. The platter comes with five pieces of falafel (with the diameter of a silver dollar), a bit of egg plant mixed with some tomato-based sauce, hummus, Greek salad, and a plate of pita bread. All of that for less than $10! And the quality definitely matches the quantity. I've also come here for the lamb/beef shawarma wrap on my non-Lenten Fridays, which is equally great. So Jie-ros Jier-ros (I mean) Yeros Yeros is definitely a Good Good place for a quick Mediterranean lunch.

This place is pretty darn good food for relatively low cost in a quaint, if-not-cramped, setting in the middle of downtown Palo Alto. Food comes fast. The same guys have been working there for the past 4 years and are always friendly and people watching is a lot of fun. For what it is, Gyros Gyros rocks, especially after a long bike ride! Oh, and try the Baklava!

    (4)
  • Irene K.

The only thing I order here is the grilled chicken gyro because it pretty darn good! The staff could be a bit unfriendly and that's a reason why I can't give it a four star.

    (3)
  • Heather H.

This place is seriously good and yogurtland is right next door which makes for a perfect stuff your face evening...only complaint I have (and not really in their control) is the many homeless people who sit on the benches directly infront of the restaurant and shoot you looks while you eat. The dolmas are very good and the meat we have had here was tender and very well seasoned. One of the oldies but goodies along University Ave.

  • Immortal S.

The 3 stars is because I have only been here once and I'm reluctant to say I love it with only one experience so far. But so far so good. I ordered the chicken gyro plate that came with salad and rice as well as pita bread. I especially loved the bread which was warm and soft not cold like I've had it at other restaurants. All the food worked well together and had an amazing flavor which kept my mouth wanting more. The staff was quick with getting the order and pretty friendly. As far as aesthetics goes, they really try hard. Carvings into the stone are amazing! Very beautiful. The only down side is that it's a bit pricey however, it IS Palo Alto so I guess in that case, it's priced just right. lol

OK- 4.5 star rating I've really come to like this place and with the addition of the swordfish to the menu... my rating has gone up. The swordfish is cooked to perfection here especially when the boss man is, well, manning the grill. The service is excellent too. The girl behind the register tries hard to remember names and makes conversation- she's real pleasant. And as always, the hummus and baklava are consistently good. The spanakopita, while greasy, is also yummy.

ok greek food on University, at very reasonable prices. Have had the lamb and beef gyros and the vegetarian combo plate. Both were pretty average, portions were good. Under $10 for most dishes.

My boyfriend and I got stuck in traffic and were starving by 3pm, so we stopped by here this afternoon for a quick bite. The service was definitely quick - under 10 minutes to get our food. Food was decent, but nothing extraordinary. My boyfriend is Middle Eastern and said that his chicken gyros wrap wasn't quite spiced enough. Overall, I like the food here and how quick it is, but it's nothing extraordinary.

1.5 Stars (rounded up again) I don't feel comfortable giving a 1 star rating unless there was a serious problem...that's why I rounded up. A friend of mine picked up a Beef/Lamb Gyro and gave me 1/2. Wow! The first time I've had a lamb Gyro in my life where it tasted Gamey. And not just a little, the taste was overwhelming! Looks like this was the last shot....won't be back.

Has anyone else who has eaten at Gyros Gyros recently had their credit card number stolen? I have had two different credit card numbers stolen (not the card themselves) in the past two months and the only vendor/merchant where I used both cards was this restaurant. I'm really careful with my card and avoid having it in sight of others, thus the reason I am surprised at how my numbers were stolen. I like their food so I am hoping it didn't happen there.

Great place to satisfy my mediterranean food cravings with especially nice outside seating wrapping around this corner location. I always get the appetizer combo plate which features all the mediterranean salads and dips normally associated with this cuisine-- hummus, baba ganush, etc. Their chicken gyro is also quite good though last time I was there I noticed they had cut down on the amount of chicken in the wrap. All in all, quite a good place to eat and relax-- all with unlimited pita and soft drink refillls.

Gyro Gyros was the place to stop after hanging out. It's quick and easy, next to the parking garage, and good and affordable. It's pretty mediocre so I wouldn't come just for Gyro Gyros. But if I don't feel like going to a restaurant and still meaning to eat healthily- I would definitely come back here to eat, then, I will re-yelp GyroGyros :)

The gyros meat has changed. More grizzle with every order. Everything else is as good as ever. They need to change their name, now that the gyros suck. Unless you like grizzle.

Cheap gyros! If you don't want gyros, they also have the usual suspects. I got the dolma appetizer as my full dinner and it was just enough. The dolmas (5 pieces) came with hot and slightly crispy pitas, lettuce, and yogurt. $5! Cheap alternative to the other restaurants on University Ave. BTW, there's no waiter service.

  • Rocky K.

First off, I'm not a huge fan of gyros, well Mediterranean food in general (save Mousakka... mmm! Though I think I accidentally called it moose kaka once.). I got the chicken gyro, and being the meatatarian that I am, I didn't want tomatoes and lettuce in it (gross). So literally, I had a bunch of chicken (quite possibly canned chicken from Costco), some sauce, wrapped in lavash. Not my ideal way of dropping 7 bucks. The chicken was bland and cold (is it supposed to be cold? I thought I would be getting something from that rotating meat log with the heat lamps) and honestly, not that good. I might be biased when it comes to gyros seeing how I'm indifferent to them in the first place, but this place just didn't cut it.

    (2)
  • Andy T.

I really like the lamb beef gyros here. It's the only reason why I come to DT Palo Alto. Of course I'm also from Texas. However they are a bit over priced now. The gyros and platters used to be about %15 cheaper.

I drive past here everyday after work on my way back home to the East Bay and get lured in for a veggie wrap frequently. It's a yummy mix of cucumbers, tomatoes, falafel, dolmas, hummus, baba ganoush and feta tucked into lavash bread that is neither too dry nor too soggy that can usually be scarfed sans silverware (I've done it in my car without making a mess too -- and that's saying a lot for klutzy me). Also love the hot sauce that sits on every table, which I apply to every bite. Service has always been quick, whether it was for a wrap there or to go or when I picked up some appetizer plates for work. Several outdoor tables to catch some sun while munching. Nice low-cost alternative in downtown PA, which can be a pricey territory for food.

I hate Mediterranean eateries: they always screw up the falafel, overcook the food and never do a spanokopita right (usually as bad as my spelling of 'spanokopita'). However, I loved this place! Got this fish gyro, and they perfectly cooked it (had option of salmon or halibut i want to say)...I was scared, but seriously, for a fast food place i was blown away. Falafel was great, hummus was great, everything was great! For what it is, it's 5 star for sure.

This place meets my need for a quick lunch or dinner before a movie or a concert in Palo Alto/Stanford. I first learned this place from a friend 4 years ago and I've been eating my favorite chick gyros here ever since. However, this is not a place for a big group of people as the restaurant has only limited number of seats. If you don't want to order any drinks, you can always pour yourself a glass of tap water next to the cashier. A unisex restroom is located on the second floor. When the weather is nice, feel free to sit outside for people-watching over your food.

I come here often to grab lunch since it's just a block away from work. I usually get the chicken gyro or the chicken gyro salad. Great place for a hot and quick bite to eat. I personally think it's moreso a stop and go place...the inside it pretty small and I feel awful cutting through all the tables so close together just to get in line. You can opt for eating outside but with all the foot traffic on University Ave who wants to eat with people (like me) who stare at your plates. hehe. I recommend calling in your order at lunch times as the lines get pretty long. OMIGAWD...I almost forgot to mention, their baklava is freakin yum. It makes my fiance's day whenever I get him some to go.

This place is good for a quick cheap bite. I usually call in ahead of time, and by the time I walk over from my house, it's ready. The staff there is pretty friendly. We usually get the spicy lamb and beef wrap, and it is pretty consistent.

All I normally get here is a gyro and a order of hummus, but it's pretty good for that. I mean to try the rest of the menu, I just haven't really got a chance yet. I was a little hesitant to give it 4 stars because of my lack of experience so far, but it's totally 4 stars for what it's been to me so far: a joint to pop in and grab a bite of Mediterranean and be on with your business.

Gyros Gyros is nice place to grab lunch in downtown PA. I really like their grilled fish salad. The salad is a made with freshly diced cucumbers, tomatoes, and lettuce tossed in a light vinaigrette. The salad is topped with a grilled salmon fillet and a few black olives. It's a nice lunch if you do not want to have that tired bogged down feeling after eating. They also have very good baklava which is not overly sweet. I've also had their Lamb Gyros which I like but the meat and pita is a little on the dry side.

Located in a great little college neighborhood. We ordered the chicken gyro and the lamb & beef gyro. Both were tasty and very large! Didn't try the other items on the menu because they seemed pricey.

I've had this place a couple of times on the way out of lunch. But...there's a few problems. As David P points out, the things are wraps, and not pitas. (I've found similar problems with other places). The people are awesome, and the service is decent, but a gyro just isn't a gyro without...

This is my lil hole in the wall Med food spot when on the Pen. The veggie combo is satisfying and you get to taste a bit of everything, even a felafel ball (sometimes dry). The hummus is one of my faves anywhere, always very fresh and they use good olive oil. Don't come in for the ambiance. For dinner, I recommend takeout or WOW (that's Waiters on Wheels). Expect a crowd at lunch, but you will be in and out within 30 minutes. I also really enjoy the tzatzike and chicken gyro. My girlfriend works in the area and when we meet for lunch ,we go to Gyros Gyros about 4 outta 5 times...that says a lot!

Spanakopita plus lamb and chicken gyros came to $17 for two. Not bad! Food was good and service was quick, which translates to four stars in my book.

Best gyros in downtown PA by far (and there are many options now). Why? Because they wrap their gyros in huge tortilla pitas, not pita pockets and THEN they grill them. Also, the hot sauce is better than anywhere else in Palo Alto (pretty sure it's Asian chili sauce). I always go for the chicken and agree it's well-marinated. I'm also a big fan of the dolmas, which comes with yogurt and pita when you order it. Thanks for feeding me for the last 4 years, Gyros Gyros. I don't know what I'd do without you.

Don't bother. Came here because the line at Pluto's was astronomical (no pun intended), Ordered a simple Greek salad - what a waste of eight dollars. Lettuce was wilted, dressing had no seasoning, feta was dry, tomatoes (in a greek salad?) were soggy, olives had pits. Just a big old mess. I should have sucked it up and waited at Pluto's. Will not return, threw most of it away. Skip it, and if you must, don't get a salad.

Well, I've been here once. Had the hummus (it was good!) and ordered a lamb pita. Apparently, I don't like lamb. Next time, I'll go with a different meat. The rest of the food that my group ordered looked really good and everyone else was very satisfied with their food. I bet my pita would have been delicious if I hadn't taken a gamble and gotten lamb (which I had never tried before).

This is not 1 $. I thought it was a bit pricey for a gyro. It was over $8.00. I can find gyros cheaper elsewhere, as well as other types of wraps like the ind you find at Taquirias, or if you go to Chipotle.

Whenever I have a penchant for a super-delicious gyro / wrap, I come here. Their chicken gyro with hummus is to die for. Delicious, juicy, and hits the spot. The pita itself is perfect and grilled to perfection. Crisp on the outside, soft and wonderful on the inside. A little pricey at about $10 for that and a diet coke, but they do it up right. I've also had their chicken gyro salad, and it's fresh, and a whole lotta food. I always come away feeling totally stuffed, and completely satiated. Next time I will definitely try their spanikopita. It looked amazing in the deli case... little perfect square dough packages of feta and spinach. Fair warning though... much like the rest of University Ave. eateries, this place is PACKED during lunch. When I go -- I tend to go around 11 a.m. when they first open up, and miss the entire lunchtime crowd.

Have been going to this place for the last 7 years and in fact drive from San Ramon for their gyros. Got to say that quality has gone down over time....first the bakhlava went down ( I loved that one but now I don't get it any more). We recently went there for lunch - there were 6 of us and everyone got something different. Chicken gyros were dry, lamb and beef gyro (my favorite) didn't have as much flavor. And then to top it...we went to ask for a little lamb for our 2 year old...just a small amount (he can't and doesn't eat much) and we figured he would charge us a couple of bucks for it. Well he charged us 6 bucks for it......for a little extra we could have gotten a whole gyro and not just a small amount on the side. I thought that wasn't fair. Anyways....will orobably try the other gyro place now.

came here during a weekday on my lunch hour. the place was a ghost town minus the two gentleman who were seated out on the side walk. i suppose one was a customer and friend to the other who apparently worked there. after a few minutes viewing the menu i finally decided on a gyros which then took another while before my order was finally taken. one of the gentlemen that was seated and chitchatting finally came in to take my order with a hassled attitude. another unusually long wait while the food was prepared. by the time my meal was ready, starvation and irritable-ness had already taken over. hoping that this gyros that has smelled so delicious would pick me up... little did i know i was in for a big disappointment. it was extremely dry and tasted as if it was a couple days old and had just been re-wrapped and heated. i tried a couple more bites just because i really hate waste food, but ended up tossing it. maybe it was just wrong place at the wrong time considering the other well reviewed yelpers, but i just felt as though i was a burden customer who they felt just needed something... anything so that they could get back to what they were doing.

My feelings for Gyrosx2 are deep but narrow. I have never actually been to the place, but I have been on the receiving end of a few lunch take-out orders and feel compelled to Yelp about them. One would expect to find perfect falafel somewhere in the Middle East, not in California, let alone Palo Alto, but I must proclaim, it's here. Not only have I never been to the place, but I have only sampled one dish -- the falafel sandwich (in a wrap). Each time I have it, it's sublime. The falafel is fresh, not too crunchy and not too smooth. There's just enough sauce to complement the fresh chopped veggies and chickpea perfectly, yet somehow the sauce defies physics by staying inside the wrap and never leaks out all over your hands. The wrap itself is lightly toasted and thick enough to provide solid insulation on the tasty insides, but light enough that you taste the good stuff and don't think you're eating a bread sandwich. This is a classic case of "don't judge a book by its cover." The owners couldn't do better than a pathetic name like Gyros Gyros, but they execute their falafel sandwich flawlessly and with amazing consistency. They clearly take their falafel seriously . And so should you.

I used to go here twice a week when I worked across the street. I started with the lamb/beef gyros and worked my way up to the combo kabob plate. Good lord, that's a lot of meat. I have been known to have quite the appetite and I NEVER walked away from that combo plate hungry. The lamb/beef is always moist with tons of flavor, the rice always light, and the salad fresh as can be. And HOT sauce, can't forget the hot sauce!! I don't know what they put in it, but it tastes sort of Asian-ish... and there are hot sauce bottles on all the tables, no need to ask! The location is awesome for anyone working in the downtown PA area, as well as for you Stanford kids out there with your big brains and empty stomachs. It can get crowded at feeding time, but the service is prompt and with a smile. Oh yeah, free water! Check out the baklava too, if you're looking for something sweet.

Gyros come in tortilla-like wraps. Very little tahini sauce. Chicken gyros was just chunks of chicken in a wrap. Greek salad was mainly lots of cucumbers and barely any dressing. The red lentil soup tasted like it was baby food, plain, boring and flavorless (pureed red lentils with no seasoning). Would not ever try this place again.

Went here for lunch recently because I wanted takeout. I won't be going back. The pita was super dry, the felafels were hard and also dry, the hummus didn't have enough garlic, basically there was nothing that I really liked about my meal except that it was quick. The ayran was standard, but most people don't like it anyway, so I'm not going to recommend a restaurant based on inoffensive ayran. Go to Robaii instead, this place is just lackluster. I guess it's maybe better for meat-eaters, but there are tons of places on the Peninsula and in the South Bay that make great felafel and I recommend them above this place.

I love it! I called Gyros Gyros for a small dinner I was organizing at Stanford, and they came through big time. They were very easy to talk to on the phone, helpful in planning the amount of food I needed, and even gave me a cell phone number to call. I think they may have overcharged a bit given what we ordered, but it was still nicely managed given that I didn't want to spend a lot of time on it; and the food was GREAT.

One of my guilty pleasures is that I love Gyros. That particular blend of lamb, beef, and exotic spices just tastes incredible to me. I've had them all over the world, and the Bay Area is strangely deprived when it comes to this particular culinary delight. But (as you might expect from a place named Gyros Gyros), this place delivers the goods. They also have the requisite other options (falafel, kabobs, etc), but I get the Gyros every time. Quick, reasonably priced, and satisfying. Yum.

Huge fan of the shish kebab either in pita or as a plate. Very reasonable prices for a prime people watching location.

I drop by here about once every month or two and I always get the same thing -- a lamb and beef gyro (which is really like a shawerma) that costs about $7 and then another buck for the tip. It's very good quick service, tasty, cheap and it's still warm by the time I get home. That dish gets five stars. I'm not sure about the rest of the menu because there's no reason to change.

Part of the regular lunch rotation. This is probably one of the better gyros platters on the peninsula. Food is reasonably priced, prepared to order, and fast. You can get in and out in less than an hour.

I used to go here often with family and friends until one time I had bad bad stomach ache after eating dinner-to go. Got sick and was not fun at all. Bathroom was the place I stayed the whole entire night. I had their beef and lamb gyro and baklava. Baklava is one of my favorite desserts and at times I have to say they're good making it but more often than not, they are very inconsistent. After me having issues with my stomach after eating there, never thought of coming back. I expect restaurants to keep their foods clean and fresh at all times. I think that's how they'd keep the customers coming back.

Not bad. I ordered the hummus vegetarian plate and my friend got a wrap that was supposed to have lamb and beef in it... but for some reason he found chicken in it, and the hummus plate was much smaller than I thought it was going to be. It was really good though - the hummus came with a good Greek salad (the feta cheese they used was amazing), but even though I left the place stuffed, I had to admit it was probably due to the massive glass of iced tea I drank with my meal. I'd go here again, but I'd probably try to order a plate that came with more food.......

Came here with Nat D. after wandering around University Avenue for some place that appealed to us. After realizing all of the restaurants close at 10 (you call yourselves a college town?), we had to settle for this place.. I ordered the Lamb Kebab plate which came with rice, salad and pita bread. Well, the only good thing was the rice! My lamb was really dry except for the last piece I ate, the salad had bitter pieces of cucumber in it and the pita bread was hard and totally store bought! I will never come back here. I would rather find an In n Out to eat at than this place! If you actually like Greek food then don't come to Gyros Gryos!!

Nothing special about these Gyros, the white sauce is not tahini sauce but yogurt, a BIG disappointment. Flavor is just ok, tried it twice - not going back.

I'm a bit surprised by the negative reviews. I can't speak for other items on the menu, but I usually just get the Chicken gryo wrap which is huge, and fairly priced ($6 or so). The wrap is crispy and the chicken is always tender. I like the yogurt sauce. I go here when I crave a chicken gyro. I think it's 100 times better than the Gyro place on California. The chicken gyros their are too dry. I liked the baklava here too. However, bf had the beef and lamb plate tonight and he said it was way too salty and not very good. The cashier lady was very nice.

worst lamb and beef gyro salad.. It doesn't event taste Mediterranean with this thousand island like dressing - the meat is dry too.. 2 thumbs down on the yuck meter..

  • Maxx L.

A few notes about Gyros Gyros: (i) Price Very reasonable. $6.45 + tax will get you a chicken or beef/lamb gyro in a pita wrap. This is a very reasonable price on a street where restaurants seem to price food based more on their rental and electric bills instead of what the food itself might be worth to the customers. If you're extra hungry, I recommend the Shish Kabab or the Adana Kabab - get the plate instead of the wrap and you'll end up with the salad and rice as well for $11 (incl. tax). (ii) Location and Parking Convenience The corner of Cowper and University is where drivers in Palo Alto begin contending with the numerous traffic lights that cause traffic to slow, so I recommend a quick left down Cowper and to look for a spot after the next block. Very close to the restaurant, and the 2hr parking is ample for a meal and conversation with friends. It'll also save you the hassle of driving back and forth looking for a spot on University. (iii) Quality of food I wouldn't rate the food as being spectacular, but if you're hungry you won't mind it at all. I've read other reviewers complaining about the dryness of the gyros, and I cannot agree with them. I've found the meat to be rather succulent and juicy, and I've never failed to finish my meal here. Still, if you want extra juicy, the Kababs are a better bet. Also, I personally prefer the plate to the wrap, but this is just a preference and I realize there are times when the wrap is more convenient. (iv) Speed of service Fairly quick - slow enough to where you know they're not just heating up pre-cooked or warmed-over-water meat, but fast enough to where you don't start wondering if they're out catching the chicken. (v) Ambiance I'd classify this place as a dive, but most people seem to take that to imply bad quality of food, and I'd hasten to correct that miscomprehension. The place has spent very little money on decoration and frills, the tables are the cheap variety, chairs are the mass-market kind, paint is low-cost olive green, menus are painted on the wall as a mural of sorts, drinks are in a cooler behind the cash register, water is in serve-yourself jugs by the cash register. Nothing to write home about - but thats precisely why I like this place. Any good restaurant should feed you first and worry about the decor a good deal afterwards. (vi) Payment method They take plastic - yes, Mastercard/Visa. No need to look for an ATM, which is fortunate because there isn't one close by. They also do take cash :-) In summation- I wouldn't bring a date here that you're trying to impress, but it is a great spot to meet a friend for a bite to eat before going out for a drink down the street to Nolas / Borders / Caffe Del Doge. You won't get ripped off on the price, you won't drive yourself crazy looking for parking, and you won't leave hungry.

I never like writing critical reviews, but this place wasn't good. The meat was dry, lacked flavor and was in tiny pieces. Pita was a bit on the stale side. How can a place called Gyro Gyro serve gyros this way?!?! Ugh! This is a PASS for me.

    (2)
  • Lu W.

I may be a bit mean to give this place a 3-star; I've only tried the lamb-and-beef gyros plate after all. But what kind of gyro joint can get away with mediocre gyros? It simply isn't spicy enough, and the consistency simply isn't what I'd expect. The meat tastes a bit gamey too. The pita is mediocre. It does enjoy the advantage of being located at a very vibrant part of Palo Alto. OK, the only real plus is that It fills you up pretty good - I had a long day of activity afterward without feeling hungry. I even skipped dinner!

Probably the best gyro plate in downtown PA. Definitely not perfect, but good and pretty cheap.

  • Stephanie H.

Yum yum. I don't think this place is that affordable, but they give you pretty large portions. The chicken gyros is delicious. It contains spiced chicken, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, yogurt sauce in lavash. I always eat mine way too fast and end up feeling sick, so slow down and enjoy. It's hard to go here in summer because it heats up very quickly and space is pretty tight. Mediterranean wraps is more delicious and they guys who own it are way cool.

We've gone to this place twice now so it's about time for a review! During our first visit, we had the spanikopita and appetizer combo plate. The spani was flaky and fluffy, full of flavor (this review is sponsored by the letter "F"). The combo plate was decent, nothing too spectacular, but also not too shabby. Their falafel is not too dried out and their yogurt sauce has a nice texture to it. The hummus and other mashed sides were also good. If we had to gripe about something, it'd be that the pita is a bit dry... but it's still warm and tasty. We added a lamb gyro to our selection this second time around. The wrap, too, was a bit dry. The lamb meat was tender and moist, but there's still plenty of room for improvement. The best part of this place is that it's situated half a block from our wedding reception site, so we'll probably stop by every time we're down in Palo Alto. Again, the food is not extraordinary, but it's certainly worth trying. Prices are decent too.

Ok, I really love this place. I go here when I want tasty, inexpensive, healthy (as far as eating out goes) food quickly. The foods I regularly eat here: lentil soup, greek salad, shish kebab. My husband gets the vegetarian plate or the falafel plate. We love it all. And the service is super speedy.

  • Stan L.

Unfortunately this is my first bad Yelp experience. I yelped a place to eat in Palo Alto and figured this place looked decent. I actually really love gyros and Greek food in general, but ever since my 2 bouts of food poisoning due to Greek food (once while I was in Greece, ruining my last day in Santorini, probably one of the worst experiences in my life... but I digress) I've been pretty sheepish about Greek food in general. Anyway, I couldn't resist, I love gyros, so we went here. Ugh, the gyro came in this huge almost burrito like wrap, which was about as dry as a towel. The actual meat was in tiny pieces and also dry. It was actually pretty inedible. I was pretty disappointed since I was really looking forward to a decent gyro. There's really not much more to say. I probably got some nutritional value from the meal, some protein, some carbs, possibly some vitamins from the salad mixed in the gyro. Oh... I didn't get food poisoning, so that's a plus.

    (2)
  • Sam N.

Not bad, $7.25 for the lamb/beef/chicken gyro-what basically amounted to a Mediterranean burrito, or a meat log. The lamb was cut strangely, in thin slices like a cured pork product, and it unfortunately rendered the taste indiscernible. Inside the thin, paper-like wrap was a scant amount of fluff, they used very little to no roughage-but had diced (sans Salmonella-I hope) tomatoes and whatever white sauce is standard of Greek fare.

    (3)
  • Mai S.

Decent place to get gyros, and pretty cheap considering it's downtown PA. I got the lamb & beef gyro, and it came out wrapped up like a burrito. I was expecting pita bread! The gyro is good, but I've had better.

    (3)
  • Paul C.

Inexpensive, but average Greek fast food. My wife and I had a gyro, moussaka, and spanakopita. The spanakopita was quite good. The moussaka was obviously microwaved, and could have been tastier. The gyro was ok, but could have used more sauce. Would not run back here, but would eat here esp. if I were in a rush.

    (3)
  • Tif W.

Another one of my very few top choices when it comes to Palo Alto dining. I'm a little taken back by the negative reviews. However, I do notice that the contents of the gryo changes every time. One day there'll be tomatoes, the other they are nowhere to be found. I like the yogurt sauce and the hot sauce. I don't like to dine there because of the limited space. Not bad at all if you on the go. The place gets packed easily, so I usually go a little before noon. *Update: reduced to three stars because Robali is better. I shit you not!

  • S O.

Their gyros tend to be dry, but their shish kebab plates (especially the lamb and beef) are super tasty. Love the salad, rice, pita, hummus, everything. I used to come here almost everyday. The soup is great too. The fish plate is meh.

Waited in line forever. Waited for the food forever. When the food finally came they got our order wrong. They told me it would take 10 minutes to bring the correct thing that I ordered. Then I tried to order some tea ($1.50) but they wouldn't take a credit card for that small amount. IMO, I would have just given it to the customer for free since it was only $1.50 and they had already screwed up our order. We ordered a gyro and kebabs which looked exactly the same and both were tasteless.

  • Brian D.

Mmmm. Very tasty (and ungreasy) lamb & beef gyros salad. Was a beautiful day, so I sat outside with friends and tucked into this quick, tasty meal after destroying 850 calories at the gym. Made up for the calories by having a little square pastry dessert, the bottom of which was covered in honey (sadly, I forget its name... my friend chose it for me). Quite possibly the best desert I've had for several years, though my body was probably mostly telling me this out of a serious overwhelming desire for sugar...

Delicious. I've liked everything I've ordered here. The hummus is particularly yummy. I could just eat a whole meal of pita and hummus. Service is usually fast. Only downside is minimal seating available.

fast, no frills mediterranean food - they've done for greek what chipotle did for mexican. i wouldn't go here if there were a messy alternative that left my face stained with tzatziki and lamb grease, but since i don't have that choice, i'll take the americanized alternative pretty happily.

I order take out lunch for approximately 20 people everyday, so I really appreciate polite and accurate servers. The lady at Gyros Gyros is the best! The food is fast and just as ordered. For a quick lunch, it's a tasty standby. However, if you're looking for a truly great gyro this isn't the place. The pitas are dry and flavorless and the tzatziki sauce is watery. 5 stars for service, but only 3 stars for the good, but not great food.

Great place, used to order takeout all the time when I lived in the area. The lamb kebabs are almost always cooked just right - juicy and tender - and the falafel plate is a great vegetarian option. This is an everyday eating place, I wouldn't go here on a date - takeout is definitely the way to go.

back in the day, i'd come here every week or so.... i lived a few blocks away and i could get meat, bread/rice and salad all under $10. the prices have gone up a little bit... but the service and the food has remained stellar! i've always gotten the chicken kebab plate... HUGE portions, so i was able to eat it as another meal (i was a poor college student!)... chicken was always juicy. i love their hummus, too..... can't describe, but it's so creamy and delicious. since the college days, i've been able to try different types of foods... i grew up pretty limited to certain cuisines (i grew up in RI).... gyros gyros will always have a special place in my heart for opening up the doors to so many different cuisines.

Since I've been on the look-out for a yummy Greek place and happened to be on University Avenue - friends did a quick search and we decided to give Gyros Gyros a try. I seriously think I've been on a streak of not ordering the right dishes because I can't seem to come away from meals knowing I'd be a likely patron again. If there's any consolation this casual restaurant was full for a weekend night. And, I can't imagine for downtown Palo Alto, the livelihood to survive if a restaurant wasn't good at all.
